My aunt and cousin love in France and we want to buy them a computer (they don't have one). Does anyone know the best way to do this? I can either build a computer by myself and have it shipped there, find a company around here to build a computer and ship it there, or find a company in France to build the computer and ship. Obviously any computer built here by either me or another company will be cheaper (possibly MUCH cheaper) because of the much better prices here (or so I assume). But the shipping charges might stack up. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I think you have to use European parts for at least some of it because of the voltages involved. There are some French websites that review hardware -- you might try contacting them about it (my bookmarks are at home, don't know any offhand).

Make sure you get a French keyboard. The only other difference is the power plug is a funky Euro type.

My first thought is that only the power supply would have to be special to accomodate whatever the French use, but I can't swear to it. If that's true, maybe you can put the rest of the system together here and ship it, and on their end they can have a local outfit install a power supply.

I think you're right about the shipping costs being a major factor in the decision.
