Buying a car without an authorized dealer in the area...

After seeing the Jaguar F-type on Top Gear, I decided to spec one out on Jaguar's website. I got to the part to locate a dealer, and the nearest one is over a thousand miles away.

Let's say I end up buying it and drove it back to where I live. What happens if it needs warranty work or any kind of maintenance? I'm up here in Anchorage, AK and friends I spoke to who have known people with Ferrari's and Lambo's had to fly up mechanics and their tools at owner's expense to get their cars serviced.

So, my best bet I guess is to wait and buy it used a few years down the road after the warranty period had expired. 🙁

I understand that part, but for things that break that are covered under warranty, I'll have to go to a Authorized Jaguar Dealer as noted by MisterTang. Otherwise, it's out of pocket right? Manufacturer warranties don't work like extended warranties right, or do they? I can file a claim and get reimbursed?

If there is no Authorized dealer reasonably available to you, then you would go the reimbursement route.

But ask Jaguar. I'm sure they will work with you to get your business.

Yeah... it wouldn't be my daily driver. I already have another vehicle for that. Something I pull out of the garage during the summer months just like motorcycle riders up here. When I'm ready, I'll be giving Jaguar a call and see what can be worked out. Just curious what folks have done in situations where a car doesn't have any local dealerships... Surprised considering most other car brands were up here.

If Anchorage has no dealer, I would guess the Vancouver will be your best bet.

Get reimbursed for service and then make the drive (or ship) to have dealer go over it with fine tooth comb every other year.

jags are far more reliable than they used to be, thanks to ford

My company leased two 2010's for the owner and COO. Both of them spent too much time in the shop. Especially when you consider they were turned in with less than 30K on them.

They did drive very nice though...

maybe it was how they were treated 🙂

thats a small sample size

my neighbor has had 5(has 2 right now, XJ and XK...supercharged ones) and have no real issues with them

man they were fun to drive
