i know this is probably posted a million times. sorry. well im gonna get a tbird 1ghz and cant decide which to get. the obvious retail gain is the 3 year warrenty. but its more expensive. and retail you save some money. This is my first computer, trying to get into makin them. gotta learn sometime. I'm just worried it will break or something then i will be SOL. also can anyone clarify heatsink/fan issue. when u get one retail. does it come already assembled on the cpu? if so can it be removed easily? cause i was going to get better cooling.

I believe the fans do not come attached to the retail cpus.

Your decision might depend on how much more the retail cpu is. My opinion is that if it's less than 20-30 bucks then it might be worth it to get retail since they're so cheap anyways.

The 1gig tbird is around $200 isn't it?

Fans do no generally come attached on retail processors. My "Classic" 650 came with it attached, but it was more of a packaging thing.

Most P3s do not have the hsf attached out of the box.

Its easy to add better cooling. Just beware that if it does come attached, the thermal paste can be a total pain to get around.
