So I've been looking for a cheap beater truck to learn how to drive stick and I came across a 1994 Ford Ranger 2wd listed for $550. I offered $300 and the lady accepted. I have arranged to go see the truck tomorrow.

The lady says the truck is in good running condition (does not burn or leak oil) with new tires, new U-joints, new wiper motor, new heater motor, and a new battery. The only disadvantage is that the truck does have a little over 470,000 kms so Im wondering if you guys could suggest what things I should be looking out for tomorrow when I go check out the truck? I know these are tough little trucks, but is it 470,000 km tough?

I only want to keep the truck around long enough to learn how to drive manual, but who knows...I might keep it a few months to daily-drive it or probably go take it out for a few off-roading runs.

Yup and I think the government here has a program where they give you $150 to retire an old ride. I just dont want to risk the truck breaking down in the middle of the street and having to foot a tow bill.

You're wanting to learn stick.
You can fuck that transmission up in one day and you'll get your money's worth out of it...don't even have to register the thing/insure/etc.
And if you get 10k out of it, you'll be doing amazing.

I think if it starts and moves under its own power you can't go wrong for $300. If it breaks down at some point just leave it 🙂.
