Buying 21 inch CRT monitor - which one?

Ok I just purchased a bunch of new parts for a new computer and they are in the mail as we speak. Im gonna be hooking this monitor up to a geforce 6800 gt 256 mb. I wanted to get a 21 inch CRT monitor perferably black to match the rest of the system.

Some of the ones I've looked at so far are:

Viewsonic 21 inch G220fb http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-116-229&depa=0

Nec FE2111SB Diamondtron monitor

Ive also seen a bunch of others around, at this point they are all starting to blend together. Anyone able to give some good reccomendations on one?

viewsonic g220 is a good monitor. Just be aware that it is a shadowmask while the NEC one is an aperature grill. With a shadowmask, it can sometimes be too dark when playing games.

I haven't had this problem, but if you do all you have to do is turn up the gamma settings in the game's option menu.

ViewSonic rocks! 😎

You can't make judgments from specs. The best way to find out is to go and see the actual models that interest you, side by side. Bug the sales person to connect each one directly to the computer. Distribution boxes can screw up the picture and make comparisons difficult.

Set the system for the max resolution you intend to use, and adjust the contrast to max and the brightness to a comfortable level. Then, set each monitor to within 1/8" of the edge of the bezel and use all the adjustments to get the straightest edges and best rectangular linearity.

Now, look for the sharpness of the picture, including text definition, and for color fringing (convergence) on hard borders between color blocks and evenness of the picture across the screen.

It won't take long to see which monitors make it and which don't. Your monitor, keyboard and mouse are the most intimate contacts you have with your machine. You phyically interact with them for as long as you're using it, and weakness in them are the ones you'll notice every day. Get the one you like. :cool

Viewsonic is nice accept for their funky little bird guys staring at you night and day, it takes a way from the badass black color!
