Hey Guys

I picked up an Antech TruePower 550 today to replace my old, shitty, 450 generic. I plan to use it in my old system until I build a new rig in the summer. I'm kinda worried now that it's only a 20pin PSU. Is this a big deal? I've read the stickied thread and am still on the fence.

Not really. It puts out decent power. It may limit overclocking ability. Or so I've heard. Adapters are available, or you just match pin1 to pin1

a truepower550 is pretty expensive, you could have gotten a good 24pin psu with that money

I wouldn't call it a bad buy. You probably could have done a little better, but Antec is a solid brand and I think the whole 20 or 24 pin thing is being blown out of proportion by some people.

I kinda feel the same way. My new rig will probably not have a high end graphics card on it. It will however have an OC'd AMD AXP64, a couple of gigs of ram, a couple of raptors, a couple of EIDE drives and a couple of optical drives. It won't be for games but photo editing.

As i understand it the extra 4 pins are for the pci-e video cards.

The only thing i'm really concerned about is not having PCI-e power connectors.

Its really the first part in a slow build and i just don't want to end up replacing it becasue its incompatible with a MB or Graphics card.

I bought one and installed it into my AMD 64 system and it's fine. It works like a champ.

I can tell you from experience that the Antec True550 is a nice PSU. It should work fine, but if you just bought it, you might want to exchange it for a TP-II 550. It has the 24 pin, and PCIe connectors.

Be careful with it. Mine toasted my system. It may not have been powerful enough for the computer.
