Hi,

I just sold a dvd rom drive on Ebay and the buyer requested some sort of proof of purchase so he has something in case he needs to use the warrantee. What should I give him? Can I give him a copy of my sales receipt with my name and price whited out or will this not be sufficient if he has a claim with the company?

Please let me know.. I need to ship this out tomorrow and I don't really want him to know the original price or any of my personal information if I can help it.

TIA,

Sal

Send him the original sales receipt. It won't do you any good since your buyer will have the drive. If you need it for tax purposes, make a copy for yourself.

I forgot to mention that my personal drive is on that receipt too. I bought two drives to get a discount and free shipping. I kept one and auctioned the other.

I guess it doesn't matter at this point. It's not like he paid that much more than what I paid for it.

BTW.. Isn't it standard practice to ask for a receipt up front before you bid and win an auction? This guy paid me with PayPal and in the little note, asked for a receipt for warrantee purposes.

Anyway.. Thanks for the replies.

Just send him the original receipt. The buyer knows your name already I'm assuming since you had to have him write you a check and send it to you and you'll have to put your name on the package anyway.

If I agree on a deal and buy something from you and sees that your original price is much lower, I'm not gonna have a fit because I agreed on the final price and thats done.

Did you have "included with item is the original receipt" in your auction? If not, you don't have to send it. You can always tell him you had to send the original to some rebate company for a rebate on another item you purchased at the same time and no longer have the receipt.

I'm going to give him a receipt because I'm a stand up guy.. I just didn't know what I could block out on the receipt and what I could leave alone. I guess you guys are right in the fact that since he has my name and address already, it wouldn't make much of a difference if he has this info. As long as it's not credit card info or something. I guess he could call the company and give them he!! and say that he is me. That might get me permantly banned from dealing with this company. ;)

If the warrantee is not transferrable, this is all a mute point anyway. OTOH.. If giving him a copy of the receipt makes him feel all warm and fuzzy inside because he thinks he is covered under a limited warrantee on a $50 item, I'll go ahead and give it to him.

Thanks again,

Sal

DON'T GIVE HIM THE DAMN RECEIPT. He knew damn well that buying from Ebay does not qualify for a receipt - unless stated in the auction. Tell him to print out the winning bid page. That should be sufficient for the warranty. It's not your problem!! Don't give him a receipt that shows that you're plain out making a profit on him.

No.. I never made any mention of the warrantee or a receipt in the auction. I've had people write and ask ahead of time for a receipt and warrantee and as luck would have it, I ended up not selling to them anyway because they got sniped on the auction. I've never had someone ask me for a copy of the receipt after the fact though, especially when I made no mention of it in the auction.

I guess it all boils down to the almighty eBay feedback. Do I leave it out and risk a negative or give him a copy?

I don't think it's worth the hassle not to include it, but I can't give him the original because I need to keep it for my drive.

Thanks,

Sal

How about just telling him that you will handle the warranty of the drive if it fails within the warranty period.
