BUYER BEWARE OF GIGABYTE MB RMA POLICY!!!!

As the title states, buyers beware of gigabytes motherboards, and maybe all their product's.
I have a gigabyye GA7vrxp I think it is ( never can remember the damn board model ), the video went out on it, it's not built in video either. I know it's the MB because when I tried 3 different video cards in it no video at all, I try all three video cards in a different MB, I have video.

I'm trying to warn everybody I'm able to of Gigabyte's RMA policy it SUCKS!!!!!!!!. When the board went on me, I went to gigabyte's web site. They go on and on about their award wining RMA policy.
Thats simply not true, I feel it's very misleading!!!! at the very least

First of all I wasn't able to find anywhere to rma anything on their site, just a bunch of lies concerning their rma policy.
To make a long story short, I had to end up calling about rma service, I might add a call I had to pay for no 800 # here folks.
I was told I would be sent a email with the rma instructions. it arrived about 2 days later, I had to fill out two forms, attach them to the email and reply back ( the forms wouldn't even take all the info I was suppose to give). No it wasn't me either.

I attached the forms to the email sent it on it's merry way, I heard nothing for 6 days ( If I remember correctly I was suppose to hear back with in 24 to 48 hr's, thats on their site expounding the virtue's of their rma policy ) Like I said heard nothing for 6 days. I receive another email telling me to resend nothing was attached, thats pure bull. I'm just glad I saved the info, wouldn't be happy at all redoing the forms.

I send it back, 3 or 4 day later ( which is today ) in fact just a few minutes before I started writing this. I receive a rma # with a note to carefully read the rma instructions, I'm telling you no instructions are attached to the note.

I also am to send 10.00 with the board for shipping charges. I am totally pissed at this after all I feel I went thru to rma a defective product under warranty. I've rma'ed stuff before and never had to Pay return shipping.

As I was searching MB's ( I'm concsidering going to a intel setup ) I went to abit's site am going thru it, decided to check out their rma policy, after going thru this with gigabyte I will for now on always check out a rma policy before I buy!!!.

Their board's all have a 3 year warranty, gigabyte's a 1 to 3 year warranty I was told, yet they couldn't tell me the warranty period on my board before I sent them the info, go figure

Abit only charges a 25.00 total fee if it's out of warranty.
Gigabyet charges 45.00 plus parts for out of warranty service, and return shipping also I just found out. I have no idea how long it will take to have the board returned to me


Please don't flame this thread. I feel that it may save someone else some aggravation. When you think about it, RMA service should be considered when buying parts I've come to feel

Thats an inportant part of the company's buisness I would say, taking care of defective parts that are still under warranty

Fianlly wouldn't someone rather have a nice smooth transaction when having to return a product instead of being put through a lot of aggravation.

Yep, Gigabyte pimped me on a retail boxed Maya video card that was first returned for service 40 days after I purchased it. I was only able to get the first RMA because I was going through the retailer, who was dealing with Gigabyte on my behalf. Three months later (I'm not kidding), I get the same card back, nothing was done to it. As a bonus, one of the RAM heatsinks had come unglued. So I call the retailer and they refer me to Gigabyte directly because they can't do anything more.

I email Gigabyte, no response. I email them again, no response. I call GBT HQ, which is only two hours from me, and get a live person! She takes my info and promises to have someone return my call within three days. Two weeks later, no call.

Tired of fooling around with them, I sent GBT an actual postal letter explaining my problem and requested a replacement. Two weeks later, no response. I send them another copy of the letter, this time certified mail with return receipt and delivery confirmation ($5.00). Someone signed for it at GBT so I know they received it. Never received a response. I gave up.
 
Though I've been a long time Gigabyte user (SIS645 since Jan '02), I hate it when companies don't put enough effort into caring for customers after they buy their product.

I live right next to the Gigabyte HQ in the US but because of your story, I'll reconsider other makers for my hardware needs.
 
bump for gigabyte hatred.. had 3 mobos in one month (2 amd, 1 intel)

all of them refused to do 133fsb.. and dual bios didnt work.. im very shocked there are gigabyte fanboys.

 
Try also writing your state's attorney general with a complaint. They probably have a website with online forms (mine does). I've found that gets them going more than the BBB. The BBB is always afraid to take sides.

I RMA'd a KT7 board to them - bad IDE controller - that was definitely under warranty, but I had to pay $25 for it.
 
Abit is not better. I paid $7 for advance replacement and nothing yet after 4 days. They received my board before they even think about sending the Advance replacement. This is substandard service all over.
