Don't bump so quickly. 4 hours or once it's off the first page. Thanks.

One of the benefits these guys have is the ability to buy in bulk. ;)

I have the number of threads per page bumped up, so it's different for me. :p

I priced something real quick. The case was ugly, I didn't like the PSU (no good selection, IMO), and it was a bit more expensive than what it would cost me to make myself.

hmm really?

Then i need to learn how to shop or get someone like you to find stuff for me becuase i couldnt price it any lower then they could.

I also just check Reselleratings.com....They dont seem like a strong company

but i priced a

3500amd64

Asus MB

1G of Corsair

6800GT

160G WD

a few other little things and it was still more epensive...

The cyberpower was like a little under 2G for all of it with a nice sound card

What warranty does the completed computer come with? You'll never be able to beat companies that buy in bulk. For example, they buy cases of $500 videocards for probably about $350 each; you'll never come close to that just buying one. :)

The warranty alone might be worth it for you. Less hassle. The first computer I bought for myself was one I bought from a place like that. Worked out well.

All i have ever had has been gateways...yes i know they are bad but my parents always bought them

They dont really break down ever but they just arnt the fastests things ever....

So i am upgrading now i have a 1.6P4 and i think it is time..

I know a lot about PCs...well not as much as you folks but more then the avg person who doesnt know how to build a computer. I have built computers before, its just finding the right prices and such is so hard and then optimizing it. LIke i said before..i have built before but i dont know about making them the fastest possible with all the settings there are out there to tweak and stuff.

My bro bought a PC from. ABSPC.com and its a great system...a bit overpriced tho

So should i buy or build lol?

Customize a machine on various websites. Copy the prices for everything and the total. Then go to newegg.com and mwave.com and compare the prices. mwave seems to have better prices for a lot of things I'm looking for, but their website sucks. ;)

The machine I had configured on that site was roughly $1200USD. The one I just configured on mwave has a slightly slower processor (2800+ instead of a 3000+), but a faster video card (ATI 9800Pro 128MB 256bit). I like the case in the one I just configured a lot better (as far as looks go, I have 2 of them already ;)). The one I'm configuring on mwave is missing the memory card reader, and the warranty. I don't think I forgot anything else. It comes out to $808.14USD. Add in another 512MB of ram, and it comes to $895USD.

Of course, that doesn't take into account the time it would take me to put it together, and the snacks of course.

Oh man i forgot the snacks..thats gonna set me back atleast 10 bucks.....

oh man a bag of snickers vs a bag of mars

both so tasty...

the snickers taste just as good but 1 buck more then the mars...the mars cheaper..but melt easily..

thats a tough one lol...

Anyway ill check out newegg and mwave again and see what i can put together..If i cant beat their price imma get one of you guys to show me what i am doing wrong! lol

I prefer reeses or kitkats myself. Is it just me or are fun size candy bars very not fun?

Check out some of the deals on those sites. Browse through the hot deals section here on anandtech forums. You should be able to do alright. Make sure you pick decent quality parts. I avoid no-name power supplies and ram. If you get a chance, check out mechBgon's newbie guide. I learned a few things from it.

Ok, some stupid error lost my post. :(

Ram: I would go with 512MB-1GB of crucial or kingston. Corsair and Mushkin are decent brands also. Crucial isn't always the best performing ram, so keep that in mind. If you are getting a socket 754, you'll need registered ram I believe. If you're getting socket 939, non-registered will perform better.

Chat: #neochat on undernet used to be a place to hang out, but I haven't checked it in a long time.

mwave: Look for parts on newegg.com, double check prices with mwave. ;)

Sound Card

Amd 3500 (This comes with the fan correct?)

Antec 430 (Is that enough for a 6800GT? My xdreamer-II case i won only comes with a 350)

MX510

Asus AV8 Deluxe

512 Crucial 184 3200 x2

WD 160GB 7200rpm

DvD R

Now all i need is the video card which is out of stock....which is the evga 6800GT

Retail processors come with a heatsink and fan, so you should be ok there. The Asus board should be fine. I'd check the price of a seagate drive over the WD one, or atleast the warranties. You might want a 3 yr warranty with the hard drive. ;)

Yup, i have decided not to do it..hopefully i can convince my friend not to either..but he might jus tlike that price too much

At the moment the current set up show a few posts up is under the price...and i hadn tnoticed before..but most parts give out a 3 year warranty!
