buy windows xp at 149usd or vista retail?

What is the best value for me to do right now, whether to buy windows xp license at 148usd or buy vista retail at newegg?

Depends a lot on your hardware, your frustration threshold and what you plan to do with the OS.

For what its worth, I'd wait until Vista comes with at least Service Pack 1 before purchasing. Go with XP for now.

Depends on your hardware specs,FYI I find my Vista x64 very stable and have had no problems at all,really impressed how stable it is,I have thrown lots of software and games at it and have found them to all run fine.

I don't think SP1 for Vista will make a lot of difference to tell you the truth,those that have Vista have all the current updates and I would say 98% of the main problems have been fixed,unlike XP which really needed SP1 and even SP2.

Drivers will probably make the main difference with Vista down the road,ie..better gaming performance,hardware support etc...

Assuming you have the hardware, I'd get Vista. I really haven't had many problems with it.

The only problems I've had were with cygwin, but that was fixed by running it as admin with Windows XP compatibility mode.
