buy unlocked xp's????

Well if you wanna pay more for an unlocked CPU, get an MP. The MP is already unlocked, costs a decent amount more.

I have heard that basically from now on, the Tbred XPs will be unlocked. Could someone confirm this plz? This would be good for AMD's performance and OC reputation.

i would do it myself but i still dont understand it

I would urge you to do some more reading if the only thing holding you back is not understanding... the theory to unlocking is very simple. All you have to do is fill in the laser pits with a non-conductive material (I use superglue gel), then connect each of the L1 bridges with something conductive, such as rear window defogger stuff.

Now although the theory is simple, to ME the PROCESS is a bit difficult (simply because of the microscopic area you're dealing with), although most people seem to think it's easy, and a lot will say 'I can do it in 5 minutes.' I have done 3 chips without a problem, but it usually takes ME about an hour or two, probably because my hands are a little shaky and I have to take my time.

There are some excellent guides out there... just do a google search, or searches at good sites like Overclockers.com, etc.

Good luck.

yea i think i might unlock it myself.............. if i mess up i can just use it at stock right?

also if i heard that the 1600+ is easier to oc but wouldnt the 1800+ get higer results (both unlocked)

will air cooling cut it to oc the chip tp maybe 2000 ghz (not the +rating)

Well it is possible to mess up an unlock job to the point of losing your chip, so you need to be careful. Most of the time when people 'mess up', what happens is, they accidentally connect different sets of bridges together. All that needs to be done in this case is to find the problem, and clean up your job -- either by scraping away some defogger or just cleaning off all the L1's and starting again.

The hot overclockers right now are the 1600+ chips. Namely the AGOIA and AROIA steppings, which people are getting from Newegg and some other online vendors. They are extremely cheap (60 shipped or less) and you're usually guaranteed 1.8 GHz. I would definitely say NO, an 1800+ will NOT yield better results than a 1600+. Now I have seen guys who've bought say, a 2100+ that WILL beat a 1600+ overclock, but then you'd have to spend what, 150 bucks or more?... and only for usually another 100 MHz. You make the call.

Aircooling... I seriously doubt you'd get to 2 GHz that way. Even with Watercooling or Pelts, the deciding factor is usually the chip itself. Mine right now is maxxed out. Even if I give it more voltage, it won't budge, and it's not because it's too hot. The chip just has its limits.
