I was thinking the other day, currently I have a steady income* for my camera gear budget. I also specifically started a savings account for this camera 9 months ago. I'v never bought a new camera and I really want to. So against everyone's opinion I might still go ahead and the 1D Mark IV and then save up for a new lens.
Thanks guys, now what lens should i be looking to make my "target" lens? I prefer Canon
*Any money I make from photography goes in to camera gear.
I think you should go with a 1D3 instead of a 1D IV. Less money spent on gear=more money for you to keep

Besides, the 1D IV doesn't seem like a killer camera when you compare it to the D3s, mostly due to the smaller APS-H sensor.
As far as lenses go, if you want a true UWA with a 1D (not 1Ds), then you will need to go for the Sigma 12-24mm. A 17-40 or 16-35 will be wide, but it won't really be "ultra" wide. Also, if how often do you need the 200mm+ range? If not, I would suggest considering the excellent 70-200mm f/2.8 IS Mk. II and pairing that with a 2x TC.
As far as other lenses go, an 85mm f/1.8 or 100mm f/2 are inexpensive investments that are excellent for portraiture.
