buy now or wait?

I was thinking about buying either the 4770 or the 4850.
But with all the rumors I have heard, I don't know whether to wait.

What do you guys think??

Little reason to wait at this point. The next gen is a few months off and the 4770 is an amazing value. The price and performance are top notch.

My general rule of thumb for tech purchase like video cards and CPU's is, if it's longer than roughly three months away till the launch of a product refresh, don't bother waiting. The new nVidia and ATI cards will not be out until late October at the earliest it seems and depending on TSMC (who makes the GPU chips), it could take until the very end of the year to come out.

To robertoac. Two months down the line I might tell you to wait but right now, grab the best card you can afford and be done with it. If you keep playing the waiting game you'll be waiting forever.

Yup, +1 to all the comments here. Just buy the best card that fits your price and performance range now, and by the time you'll need to upgrade (probably 1 year at least), the next gen stuff will be out, and it will be cheaper than at launch. So you get to play your games now with decent graphics, plus when you upgrade in a year, it won't cost as much, Win/Win right there! I'll echo akugami: If you play the waiting game, you'll be waiting forever and playing with less than awesome graphics.

I heard 4830s are coming, 55nm gpu with ddr5s. they should be here in a week. those not quite as good as 4770 but should be alright.

Does it consume less power?? Because I don't want to have to buy a new power supply.

yeah if you're looking at cards like the 4770 ect you might as well buy now. that said, i "waited" for the 8800GTX back in the day.

i tend to wait if we're on the verge of a directX jump.. which we are right now. but if your pc isnt that fast or you arent buying top end stuff then theres not many good reasons to wait out dx11 parts. personally, i am waiting for the top end 5800 and i'll pay $500 for it or ~$650 like i did my 8800gtx on launch day. it was the best decision i ever made (to wait, and pay launch pricing). if i'm bothering with opening up my case, i want to be gaining speed and directX features. (not that i did this with the 8800GT i'm using now but thats a longer story where i sold my GTX for a very high price and rebought the GT low)
