Hi guys. I'm gamer.
I just bought I7-920 D0 and thinking to buy Motherboard+RAM+Video+HDD for my new build (currently using PIV 3.4GH 478 PRESCOT).
Do you think is worth to wait B.t.School season for cheaper prices or buy it now ?

At NEWEGG:
1. OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G1600LV6GK - Retail ---$99
2. ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail ---$269

Total $315 after -$35 Combo and $20 MIR.

I don't know which video card is good to buy : i like ATI's 4890 but with my curent card
HIS X1950PRO i have lot of problems with upscaling on TV and heard they all got same problems, opposite Nvidia which upscales AUTOMATICALLY all cards~~~Will spend $200-250(Single card, not SLI or +Fire).

I will use my current PSU: OCZ GAMESTREAM 700w, i hope it will work.

Any recommendations?
Thanks.

I would wait really. I'm going through the same choice of whether to blow a good wad on an ASUS P6T7 WS mobo, two triple kits of Mushkin RAM, and a GTX 285. I have the money and all. But do I really want to buy it now when I could by it later (probably more cheaper?) and snag an OEM copy of Win 7?

And that's when I decided to just wait till October or November for me to get those things.

In your case? I would really just get those things until the Back to school sales begin.

The motherboard is already hitting closer to the $250 price point and by the time Back to school comes it might (although it could be wishful thinking) be lower slightly than that.

DDR3 RAM from OCZ will be even cheaper still by then

Video cards you'll probably need to bite the bullet if you are going with Nvidia. And if you are going with Nvidia EVGA is the my recommendation since their warranties and customer service are top-notch.

I'd go ahead and get the motherboard and ram. You can find others for less if you're trying to save money. Why waste your processor for a few months for no reason? You could have waited and got it cheaper too.

The post BTS season is the best. I remember in undergrad buying my computer a month after everyone else did, and I got a much better machine at a lower price.

I got CPU for $200, it not gonna be cheaper and how i heard prices maybe will keep holding because INTEL is intredusing lover budget CPU's i5-i3 .
SONY did with PS3 same thing :removed EMOTION CHIP from console and all E.chiped consoles people now selling on EBAY for $700-800.

I would think you would want to buy it now. Once you start school you may be too busy to get your new computer broken in and you'll just want to use it.
Also think of that extra 2 months in dollars per days used and you will find you will get a better deal then waiting for a 40 dollar price drop. You are just paying more now to use it more.

i picked up the gigabyte x58 UD3R from zipzoomfly, didnt need a tri sli and i was trying to fit a budget paid 185 but will come up to 139 after rebate and ebillme. that with my 200$ DO from microcenter made a no brainer since i will prolly take the rebate money and putting it forward to getting a decent fan.

i sold my old e4300+965p+4x1gb of ram for 180$.

Suppose your right about i7 prices holding pretty steady, so dont think your going to lose value on your CPU in a hurry. Personally though, i wouldnt be able to sit there with such a nice CPU and not put it in a system.

I'd be lookign for the best value / performance MB + DDR3 RAM combo, then ordering it ASAP :)

I've recently decided to go for broke and just get the rest of the components. They have started to fall so I'd say there will be some slight falling in prices for the Core i7 motherboards such as the ASUS P6T Deluxe V2. But for something like the P6T7 WS, don't expect them to drop as fast given what they are for by design.

Also, after Intel's announcement of, in short, keep all CPUs of the socket LGA 1366 at the high end spectrum, prices will steady around the $200, my guess, and then drop from there.

So the only thing I would look for prices to fall drastically for this platform is the RAM (particularly the 6GB triple kits).

and one more thing, alrightgame is right, best to get this sorted out ASAP before school starts or you will be probably distracted just thinking about finishing this thing together (^_^).
If you had read the Anantech article, you'll will have a better idea of what to look for and see what you want for performance and price (depends on what you want to do of course).

Wow, you and I are almost on the same page. I'm also on a P4 3.4 XE system with a Sapphire X1950 Pro, and I've just bought a i7 920 D0 as well. However, I haven't had any upscaling problems. Strange.

I've also listed a number of what I perceive to be good mobos and asked for guidance here:

Wow. Now I feel like a relic. How could you miss all the Northwood vs Prescott on-the same-platform wars back then, common argument being that Northwood ran cooler and did better without HT due to smaller cache, and Prescott running hotter but doing better with HT due to larger cache.

I've read lots of positive things about that, but lack of a single eSATA port ruins it for me. Is there anything particular that you don't like about it? And is it x16/x16?
