Buy more RAM in my i7 2640M Thinkpad?

Hello,
I am about to buy a laptop and need to decide if to get a RAM upgrade.
I am buying a i7 2640M CPU with Win 7 Pro 64.
I use it only for business purposes but lots of multi tasking like word, net browsing, etc. I do not play any games and barely watch any movies. Also I want something which is future proof for at least 3-4 years...
Lenovo is charging 160 $ for increasing 4 GB RAM TO 8 GB.
Should I just buy with 4 GB and self install another 4 GB later on when the need arises and thus save? Will 4 GB suffice for my mainstream level use?
Thanks

I did the same thing to save money on my wife's school laptop. Much cheaper to buy an aftermarket stick and install yourself.

Just be sure the original laptop config has a single 4 gig stick rather than 2 x 2 gigers. That would just end up costing you more in the long run when you need to toss them both aside.

If you don't have an SSD for it yet?.. that would be by far the best bang for the buck increase in overall performance.

This! Especially para 2.

Dear Guys! Thank you very very much for your reply! It removes all the doubts I had in my head and will save me a fair amount of dollars as well. I have finally decided to install the RAM later on and that too if I need it. And my final specs are something like i7 2640M, 4 GB RAM, 160GB SSD and Win 7 Pro 64. Kind Regards Justin

I would never pay Lenovo that. When I ordered my x120e from them, I ordered it with the smallest RAM possible and I bought my own 2x4GB Corsair RAM for like $35. One of the reasons why I love Lenovo is it's so EASY to upgrade RAM and hard drives. In my case it was three screws to remove the panel under the laptop, and just push two clips out to remove the RAM. It couldn't possibly be easier.

I'm sure you'll be pleased with your upgrades too.

I was also amazed at how cool the onchip HD3000 gfx keeps these laptops as well. Fans hardly ever go to full speeds either so you know it has to be running cool.

The last one had a friggin toaster of a 512MB discreet card which sat smack in the middle of your lap when using it. Nice for cool winter months.. but not so much in the summer. lol
