Buy HDTV Online

Would you buy a HDTV say Samsung from an Online Store?

I looked for a good deal and this location came up:

http://www.vanns.com/shop

They had some TV's listed significantly lower in price and they seem to be really big in Montana. They also have an Amazon.com link.

I have purchased 3 TV's online in the last 2 yrs, all of them came in great condition and all are still working.

though i have never bough from vanns

I purchased an LCD from buydig.com in November 2009. It broke in early February 2010. Luckily LG's support outscourced the repair job to an excellent company so my experience has been great so far. This is probably the only caveat to buying such an expensive item online. If something goes wrong, like your TV arriving broken, it's very hard/costly to rectify.

The good thing about purchasing online though for people like me (in California) is no tax for certain websites so that right there is a bargain in itself.

Some online stores will do white-glove delivery, where the shippers bring the TV in your house, unbox it, place it on the stand, and allow you to connect an input and turn it on before signing to accept the delivery. If they don't do this (or it costs $200 like it does at some places), then at least look the TV over really well before signing for it. Refuse the delivery if it looks beat up.

That being said, there are very few retailers who will do ANYTHING more than an online retailer after the first 30 days. Some won't even cover you for that long. I recently ordered a TV from Amazon and had no problems whatsoever. It was reassuring to have Amazon's excellent return policy in case I had any problems, but even with a different retailer I knew Panasonic's excellent warranty service would take care of me.

Vanns is a well-regarded store, though I don't know the specifics of their TV shipping.

Amazon is excellent for TVs -- their free shipping includes not only delivery but setup inside your house.
