I am planning to get a good Mb for my P4 2,4B, and I was really waiting for DCDDR boards. Now that Gb are out I am wondering if its worth the wait for Sis655. I cant buy Gb boards over here anyway yet
I got two 256 Corsair XMS3200C2.

I wait for the SiS655. The GB is not that much faster for what it cost. So even if the SiS655 offers the same performance as GB, at least it will be cheaper AND offer DDR333

If you wait for the SiS655, you'll probably be waiting until the end of the first quarter 2003 or later. Intel just changed specs on it's Springdale chipset from 667fsb to 800fsb. That means Via & SiS are going to retool their chipsets to follow suit.

Hmm, thanks for the answers! That doesnt sound good. I dont want to wait THAT long. By that time I could even get a hammer allready or at least quite soon.

Well if you want something really fast you have to wait until after the first of the year. That is when AMD, Intel, Via, SiS, etc... Will have their NEW line. They are still pushing out their old inventory so they are in no rush. Its been a slow year so the inventory is kinda high right now.

Maybe you should get a good 845pe mobo now, save money for some other mobo next year that offers a significant performance increase.

The SiS 655 is not being retooled and in fact ECS is already selling some 655 boards, just not in North America yet. SiS officially released their 655 chipset just recently and new mobo's should show up by January or so. But if you want to wait for 800MHz FSB boards then you will have to wait abit longer. :disgust:

TAIPEI, TAIWAN, Nov. 18, 2002 ? Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS), a leading supplier of core logic and graphics chipsets, today launched its second-generation AGP8X core logic chipset, the SiS655. The SiS655 is the first Intel® Pentium® 4 (P4) chipset on the market to have dual channel DDR333, providing double the bandwidth.

Looks like you won't have to wait too long. ;) I'd hold out for an SiS655 board because it should have a 4:5 divider and if you can OC your 2.4B up to 160 FSB, your RAM will be running DC-DDR400 which should give the SiS655 a slight edge over Granite Bay. Hopefully the first reviews will start popping up soon.

Thanks oldfart! The posts you and TheCoz made in the GB thread pertaining to async latencies were informative. SiS usually schmacks out a performance-oriented chipset so it will still be interesting to see how competitive 655 is vs GB, and how much the async latency affects performance.

I sure hope Evan`s SiS655 will come out in the beginning of the december rather than the end. That will help a lot of people to decide, wether they should wait till the end of december or even beginning of january, or go for a GB Mb right now....
