When I get my tax return I will have money to buy a Canon 20D w/ the 18-55mm lens kit. The local camera store has them for $1599 + tax making it around $1725

I can buy the same kit online for $1,388.89 with free shipping.

Is there any advantage to purchase the camera from the local store? With the money I would be saving I'll probley get the 70-200mm f/4L lens also. :)

Bought my EOS-20D/17-85 IS kit from B&H photo for $1999.99 (no tax).

Edit: I would say there is no advantage unless it's a "mom & pop" store that can offer you free sensor/lens cleanings for life or something. Just be sure to check out the return/RMA options from the online store before buying.

Or you could buy my Nikon D1 with a 28-120DX lens and a 70-220 lens, carrying case, 256mb cf card, card reader, and two filters for $700 :D

Camera works, but needs to be serviced, it's AF feature isn't working correctly, so I think it needs an internal cleaning that a service center can do.

I wouldn't think so if thats what you've decided on already. Warranty service would be through manufacturer anyway.

What other lenses are you thinking about?

I've got the 17-85IS. My next lens will be a prime of some sort, possibly the Canon 50mm F1.4 USM. I also have noticed that the wide-angle is more useful to me than telephoto, so I am considering the EF-S 10-22mm. Then at some point I want to throw in an L lens, possibly the 17-40L or the 70-200L IS. I think I would be set at that point.

I bought my DSLR online to save on taxes, got it from CDW with a 30 day return policy, after that you get the manufacture warranty. saved myself like 120$

I bought a MAC warranty through B&H for about the same price. May need it, may not. Oh well.
