I need to make a decision.

Buy a dreamcast now and get to play good games, nba2k2,nhl2k2,nfl2k2 and toyko extreme racer 2. but there wont be any new games coming out.

Or

wait a year for when i can afford to buy PS2.... because i am an umemployed poor teenager i am estimating i will have enough for ps2 by next christmas. but I already have a seperate dvd player.

Pros of buying dreamcast:
4 control ports
games and accessories are cheap
system is cheap
can afford to buy it now

Pros of PS2
has GTA3, GT3
has wicked new games coming out
will be able to play future Gran turismo series ( im a racing game freak)

Cons of buying Dreamcast
no new stuff
hardly any games selection

Cons of PS2
hella expensive
games and accessories are expensive

Up Here is canada Dreamcast is $69.99 ( $40U.S) and PS2 is $449 ( $290 U.S)
I need your guys imput becuase dreamcast sytems are becoming hard to find.

Get the Dreamcast and enjoy it - then sell it when the PS2 has a price drop sometime next year...

Yeah, at 40 dollars a pop for a Dreamcast, just buy it. In a year or so, i'm sure you'd probably still be able to sell it for at LEAST 20 dollars, i have a feeling the value won't plummet. Hell, look at the playstation one. A rigged up system with games and controllers will sell on ebay for 50+, i've seen quite a few.

Not buying a DC would be A BIG MISTAKE... it's the best console for the money and games

I wouldn't get a xbox / ps2 / gamecube till next year when they price drop

By the time next year comes around and your PS2 is affordable, a new system will be out and you will come here to ask if you should buy the PS2 or get whatever the new system is. You will wait, and you will get caught in an endless cycle.

Buy the Dreamcast.

Buy the Dreamcast because if you have to wait a year to afford the PS2, how are you going to afford the games? Plus the PS2 is not good enough of a system to wait a whole year for.

Enjoy console gaming now. The Dreamcast will provide countless hours of entertainment. No matter that the title production will be terminated, there are many, many titles out there now that will steal away much of your time.

Do you really want to wait a year?

Get the DC, then hunt around for a few of their A+ games for under $30 Cdn at places like
Walmart, Toys R Us and used videogame shops.

You can get a VGA adapter of sorts for the DC.

BTW, you should add AC4 (Ace Combat 4) to your list of PS2 pros, that game kicks a$$.

Right now, the DC is $50. A year from now, the PS2 will be $200, or at the absolute, very-least, $150. What are you waiting for? Get that Dreamcast!

<< Isthere any way to play a DC on a computer monitor? >>

Yes, there are many VGA adapters on the market, the best one made by Interact costs $50 retail. You can find simple versions (i.e no pass-through ability) for about $15 on eBay.

I agree. The game manufacturers have really embraced the PS2. THAT is really what will keep the price up on the PS2. It has nothing to do with the technology inside.

If MS reduces the price of the Xbox, they could almost wipe out the PS. But I think MS would have to cut the price in half or more to do so.

If you want a good deal now, get the Dreamcast. If you want a wider variety of games, bite the bullet and buy the PS2. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the PS2 to go SUBSTANTIALLY down in price.

Hey, Sony still has the nerve to price the ancient PS One at $99. They'll keep the PS2 at $299 for at least 5, maybe 6 more years. ;)

It has little to do with nerve and a lot to do with PSONE's still selling well at $99.
However, Nintendo still asking $99 for the sad N64 is somewhat questionable.
