Buy.com will lay off more than 40 percent of its staff, sources close to the company said, marking the company's second round of cuts in less than a month.

Looks like another etailer that's about to go under :(

I had some good deals from them too...

Well, when you have to give stuff away to make a sale this kind of thing catches up to you. Look at Dell.....

<< Amazon is next... >>

i'm sorry for those who get laid off, but I will be glad when amazon.com goes under finally disproving companies should be built the way amazon.com was.

I wonder how long staples.com will still be offering the coupons and free shipping over $50. I am sure either the coupons or the shipping or both will be gone soon....

Out of all the big online e-tailors I liked buy.com the best
Bought a bunch of stuff from them until I found the Hot Deals board ;)
Never had a problem with them either, I thought that was one online buisness that would make it. In fact, I think they would have made it if they wouldn't have tried to expand like amazon.com did at an alarming rate. Well, they aren't dead yet and they have cut back to what they used to be. Don't think they'll be able to pull it off though :(
Oh well, live and learn :)

buy.com did have a stellar customer service department. You could email them a question and they'd get back to you within a couple hours. Very nice.

Well, golly gee. You mean a business actually has to make a profit to survive?

Agreed. 100%. My sad face was only because Amazon.com is a great source for DVDs and books. Too bad they can't figure out how to stop losing money on every sale. They should hire me as CEO. I'd tell them to raise prices a buck on everything, people would still buy from them because of the name. Oh well. ;)

I shopped at Amazon. Once. Amazon's problem is that their privacy policy isn't. Call me draconian but when I do a deal with someone they ought not run off and share my privates with the whole world.

Buy.com = very good customer service. They impressed me with that. Even after a 40% workforce cut and slightly higher prices, I won't forget it either.

Crucial's another company like that: I'll always buy from them if they have what I need even if I need to shell out a hair more.

well, I guess those i(whatever), e(whatever) or whatever.com hype is over.. and most people realize that it's not magic.

Maybe buy.com will refocus it's business to computer related only..
just like Amazon could refocus it's business somewhat as well..

It is disheartening to see buy.com cutting staff and lowering projections. After their initial mistakes (lying about monitors, charging for products that never shipped or didn't ship for months), they cleaned up their act after Caroline and many others pointed out the error of their ways. I have to say that they have had good prices and good customer service in the more recent past. sigh
