buy.com sucks

Homerboy

Lifer
so I ordered an item for my father-in-law the other day from buy.com
4 days later it's still sitting in the "Sent to Warehouse" stage.
So I email support asking "whats going on with this order?"
3 days later I get an email telling me that the item I ordered is on backorder with no current ETA. And explaining that their on-line inventory only updates every 24hrs, not real-time but they are "working on fixing that". They also explained that they don't cancel or notify of backordered items, but they will cancel if the buyer contacts and asks for it to be cancelled.

Now that's some GREAT service!

I have fortunately had good experiences with them but I've also heard many of these stories about their stock issues. Luck of the draw.

had a bad experience with them a couple years ago with a video card. but I recently bought couple SD cards and a bluetooth headset (which I ended up returning)...and it all went very smoothly.

I've actually had good experiences too, and I didn't hesitate to order from them. But what irks me is that the generally policy seems to be "we don't notify of backorders". That just seems weird to me.

I never had issues with Buy.com except if you use the free shipping method; that takes up to two weeks.
Last week on Monday I bought a calendar and movie in one order. I received the calendar Tuesday, the movie came on Thursday. Same week on Wednesday i bought a hard drive and got that on Friday.

So I see no problems with them.

They have always been great for me.

Ditto! Even though they have quit offering the free shipping on several items I have made multiple orders for from time to time.

especially with their google check out discount. I bought 3 items at different times, got them all in a timely manner... 🙂

At least you know your stuff is on backorder. I've had my shipment sitting in a "Shipping Partner's" processing facility for the last 6 days.

I think you guys are missing my point. I find it a rather crappy practice to ACTIVELY not inform a customer of a backorder.

I used the google $20 of $50 twice to order memory with free 5-7 business day shipping and it was here in 4 business. Google checkout FTW

I have used GCO six times since they started the $20/50. I don't care if it takes a few extras days to get it.

I've had good and bad experiences. Bad experiences being that they say they are in stock but then I get a "surprise backorder" notification, even though their website still says they are in stock and ready to ship. I called them once or twice but no one really cared. 100% lying to consumers. Hit or miss I guess, I've been ordering a lot of stuff with the $20 off $50 as well and things seem to be going smoothly so far.

I am in the same problem you are in. I may need to cancel becuse I need a rebate to be postmarked before a date

half you people STILL aren't reading (and understanding) what I am saying. They are purposefully NOT telling you of any delays...even when there is NO ETA for a new item. Any semi-reputable store would send you an email saying "Sorry your item is on backorder the ETA is XYZ days. If you would like to cancel..."

CattleGod and thescreensavers: I suggest emailing or calling and checking ETA... heaven knows they wont contact you.

they sucked for me the only time I used them, was like pulling teeth trying to get another GPS unit after the first was lost during shipping.

I got one of the Philips 32 inch LCD TVs from them only for it to die a week out of their paltry 90 day warranty. I know what's wrong with it and it will cost almost as much to fix it as I paid for the set.

*sigh*

Dell with corp discount here I come.
