40x read/write speed is pretty standard pedestrian speeds but $45/gb is not too bad for SD flash memory of any speed. Lexar is a solid name in flash media manufacturing with a good rep. And Lexar is pretty good about their rebates (12/25/05-1/31/06).

No, 40X is not slow, there are faster but most devices cannot take advantage of anything faster anyway
