Buy.com DOTD Magellen GPS/Toshiba 510V Monitor/250MB USB Zip/Canon Powershot S10

Even though these are not super hot like the SONY VAIO laptop, DVDs, RAM, etc. I think the 15" monitor is reasonable, so is the 250MB USB Zip and I dunno what the regular price on the Canon PowerShow S10 is.

man and i though that this 5 DOTD's a week was gona bring some fat deals, so far not a single item for me! oh well i guess i can look at it as saving money!

The ZIP250 is pretty warm deal... I was in CompUSA pricing them yesterday and they had the ZIP250 for $190... so $129.95 (the $10 off $40 expired i believe) is not a bad deal. Thinking about grabbing it... except the local MicroCenter has the ZIP100 referb box for $69... HMMM

Yeah if I hadn't already purchased my Zip 250 from VA.com last year then I'd probably buy that but I would add a $21.05 DVD to reach $150 then sign up for a WebCertificate.com so I can become a "returning new" customer to Buy.com use the $30 off $150 - 3% eBates - free shipping = Decent Deal.

I would get the 250 instead of the 100 because 1) It's brand new, 2) It can both read and write to both 100 and 250 Zip media and 3) It's a good deal.

I've had 3 Zip250's and have gone back to zip100- yes, they can *read* 100Mb disks, but NONE of the three I've had (original, warantee replacement, and warantee replacement of the replacement) can reliably WRITE to zip 100 disks.

Offered as warning to potential buyers, not as a flame... and, as always, YMMV!

lately there have been good deals on CDRW drives so I have no idea why you would want a Zip. Think about it, for the same price you can get an 8X/4X CDRW that has about triple the capacity and much more to offer (music CD's, mp3 CDs, backups of software/game CD's, etc). Oh and did I forget to mention that CDR media costs about 100 times less (167 times less to be exact 😀)? You can get CD's for as low as 25 cents each (in bulk) as opposed to $15 per 250MB disk. So that is .036 cents/mb compared to 6 cents/mb

with regards to the digital camera on the DOTD today, i did a check on pricewatch just now and if i am not wrong, u can actually get it for less over there.
so anyone thinking of buying one might wanna check out pricewatch first.

re the zip drive, the nice thing about having a *portable* is that it can be used on computers that don't have a cdrw to write to--ie, your friend/parents/whoever has a large file on their box that they/you want to xfr to your box....(of course they need to have usb).

also, for those who want versitility, look for a deal on the *enterprise* version of the 250 zip--it has both usb and pcmcia conx (my daughter's older laptop does not have usb).

Madcowz has a very good point. Plus if you burn a CD-RW it can be read in virtually all CD-ROM drives and almost all audio CD Players.

However as db pointed out, an internal IDE or SCSI CD-RW isn't as portable as an external 250MB USB Zip which can be moved from PC to PC or to laptop or to a Mac with USB within seconds. The Zip has the upper hand in versatility and portability.

Wonder if Buy.com will ever feature the Fuji Finepix 1400 as the DOTD?
