I don't know if this is that much of a deal since, a lot of finished prices on egay go for around $1500~$1800. That's the brand new price for the same system on egay. :p

yeah, the price may be about the same but i think dealing with sellers on egay can take more work than with buy.com

Oblivion, You shoulda bought this Sony over that hp stuff man. Looks like a decent price for a VAIO, if you want a VAIO that is.

Granted this Sony VAIO is a great quality laptop it's no where as near of a bargain as the Walmart.com HP with DVD for $732.50

First and foremost the Walmart.com HP with DVD is only $732.50 which is less than half of this Sony VAIO.
Secondly this Sony appears to have NO CD/DVD Drive which is a major shortcoming IMHO.

If the Walmart.com HP were still in stock I'd rather buy that which comes with DVD built-in and save $962.50

Hey, I agree. HP is a steal.. but are you really gonna lug that thing around with you? Plus if you are at school (which oblivion, and I for that matter are) you would like something light and easy to carry around for classes etc. Plus do you really need a CD/DVD?? Ethernet is probably sufficient no? and how much quality are you gonna get in a DVD player with that kind of hardware inside the HP?? I'm thinking not that great.. I could be wrong though. Just a thought.

I was actually looking at the z505's when I was going to get a laptop.. But heard some bad things about it. some people are satisfied with it, some are really not!... Decided to pick up a T21 instead.. Damn happy with it now.

you got to be a nutball to get this.

I just won my auction from ubid for a sony pcg-650 today. paid $1311 for a refurbed sony with a p3 600, 64meg sdram, 8x dvd, and a 14.1 tft xga display..+ everything else.... then i headed over to crucial and got the 15% off webpromo rate, and purchases a sodimm stick of 128meg pc100 for $62 guaranteed to work with it. $1400 for my system is a ton better deal....and i got a giant screen, an extra 128 megs or ram, and dvd to boot

90 day warranty...from ubid on this lappy

DealBabe: You made one crucial error... ordering from uBid. Good luck with the warranty. It is usually from the "third party" supplier.

My aunt has one of those XG models, really silm and it doesn't look like it can stay cool really well. I heard of the overheating problem with the silm models.

Now Dealbabe, the model you have , 'all in one' should be fine. I have the F630 and it keeps pretty cool, I would of liked a F350 but for $1199 new, I can't complain.

Keep checking the Walmart page. It came back in stock once already after it was backordered. The cost on the Walmart laptop is actually only around $650 after the discounts. Walmart is giving everyone 10% off of the $749 price and Ebates is another $20+ off. Make sure you call Walmart and get that 10% off if you haven't already.

Celeron 500, 64 megs, 12.1 TFT, 8x DVD, floppy, external CD controls let you play a CD without booting up, internet hot buttons, serial port, parallel port, 2 x usb etc. The Walmart deal is only like $1000 less! :)

I added 128 megs for only $60 for a total of 192 megs and the Walmart laptop flies pretty good. I'm totally happy with the performance and no dead pixels on the screen. Yay!

I got the Walmart HP laptop also...

I upgraded to a 20 Gig drive and 256meg of memory...

All that for under $900

Now that's what I call a DEAL... and like the guy said before.. I suffer no dead pixels either..

woo hoo...

Yikes !!!
They change the SPECIFICATION on the Walmart page..
5GB ( or 4.3GB formatted)

So no more 10% Discount I believe......

P.S. .....Click.....click....click.....Still out of stock.... ;(
