I have been planning a core i7 build for quite some time. I bought a bunch of parts on sale recently and I was going to wait until after christmas to buy the rest (mainly so DDR3 memory has a chance to drop). Unfortunately, my laptop (the only comp I have right now) crapped out on me and i'm stuck without a computer.

parts I have:
antec 300 case
core i7 i920 cpu
samsung 1tb hdd
PCP&C 610w PSU
dvd burner

parts I was planning on buying
gigabyte x58 extreme mobo
ati 4670 graphics
3x2gb 1600mhz ddr3

I was thinking I could buy the mobo and then get 1 or 2 gigs of cheap ram and a 30$ used graphics card and pair it with an old CRT, then at least I can have a running computer and could possibly hold off on upgrading until I find a great deal on a graphics card and ddr3 memory.

of course, maybe i'm just itchy to put this new computer together, opinions anyone?

Let's see... x58 mb, 2gb ddr3, gpu... that's what? >$300?
For that, you can almost get a complete Dell system with a LCD if you need one. So you could get that for now and sell it later when you want to put together your system. Otherwise... get a $50 780g or 8200 mb, $50 x2 cpu and $20 ram for a working system for <$150. And when you get the rest of your components, it could be the core for a 2nd computer because you can never have too many computers, especially if one of them craps out.
