Hi,

I am going to buy next week new memory stick to my PC.
But I am not 100% sure on the model.
my choises are the new G.Skill series PI 2X2024 DDR2 1000Mhz 5-5-5-15 2.0 BPI
and the Mushkin PC 8000 2X2024 1000Mhz 5-5-5-12 2.1 XP Redline

I know that the Redline is the high end memory from muskin but those shiny G.Skill sinks are appealing.

I will like to get a second opinion and I think this is the best forum to ask.

BTW my rig: Q6600, ASUS P5K-E/WIFI 8800GT 512MB Leadtek

Cheers

For most people with a Q6600 there's not a whole lot of point in buying anything over DDR2-800.

I am planning to OC it to 4Ghz with high FSB and will try with a low divider.
Any way I am thinking to upgrade to Q9450 .

Welcome to the forums :)

Q6600 or Q9450 to 4 GHz?!

Not going to happen

With a Q6600, some luck will be needed, but you should be able to do 3500 MHz or sometimes a decent bit higher, depending on how much voltage you want to pump into the chip, & what cooling you use.

With a Q9450 or X3350, you'll be limited by the motherboard, since most people have enough trouble running quads @ 450 MHz, nevermind higher.
8x450 = 3600 MHz...any higher is going to take insane voltage on the motherboard, & great luck generally...

As for RAM, either of those kits are good, but i'd have to lean toward the Mushkin due to what most would consider better support.
That & i dislike overly tall heatspreaders due to issues with clearance & heatsinks, etc.

I see you posted this same question on XS forums...here's a great review by someone there: http://www.xtremesystems.org/f...?p=2949632&postcount=1

Notice how the XP2-6400 2x2 GB kit actually beats the Redlines significantly in OCing.
I have the XP2-6400s myself...they do clock well, & if you can get them for less than the Redlines, it'd be worth considering ;)

Another thing that'd help for recommending RAM would be if you could let us know where you are buying from.

If that were the case, you'd be choosing the G.Skill, since it has heatsinks that are so much lower.

Yes, he's mentioning the new PI series, hence why i mentioned the heatsinks.

If the OP can get the regular G.Skill that's the best deal in US/Canada...but he doesn't live here, which is why i asked where he's buying from, since for all i know he might only be able to easily get the aforementioned two kits.

Ahh, my mistake, I should have paid more attention. I actually don't even look at/consider RAM with heatsinks like that, and am surprised anyone else does, either.:)
