I am about to upgrade my duron to a XP. Is there something on the immediate horizon that I should wait for or should I go with one of the current 266A motherboards such as the epox.
Orcish, I don't see how you can say that Epox boards are slow. They are one of the best overclocking boards around. In Anands KT266A roundup he refers to them as "pure speed." gplracer if I were you I would go ahead and buy now. The KT266A boards are benching as fast for faster than the upcoming nForce 420's and ALi DDR333's so it should be a top board for at least a few months...which is about all you can ask for in this industry.
Wait for the ASUS KT266A. Its early yet and on past mobos the ASUS has ruled the roost. Wait and you won't be dissapointed. Its the one i'm waiting for anyway.
I'd wait for the Asus KT266A board. They are making two flavors... one with onboard RAID, the other without. It also has a great feature that appears to be a dynamic clock generator... so regardless of the FSB, the AGP and PCI slots run @ spec.
The MSI nForce board should be out next week. Reviews are popping up all over the place which means it should be hitting retail soon. You get solid audio that you could port out to a surround receiver, built in ethernet and performance that is comparable to the KT266A. The video is comparable to the GF2.
If you plan on overclocking, it appears in a preview @ AcesHardware the nForce is an OK, but not hardcore overclocker like the KT266A.
I had a Shuttle AK31 and the AGP port burnt out. I'd suggest you stay away from the board and go Asus. I have never had a problem with my Asus boards ever.
