Buy a Compaq PC and you don't get a Windows CD, B.S.!!!

I bought a Compaq PC, (I know go ahead and say it) 😱 and it came preloaded with Win98SE, but they didn't send me the fricken Win 98 cd. They claim "sir, its all right there on your hard drive". Well no sh*t but it would be nice to have the cd too, jerks. Anyway my question is if the entire cd is on my hard drive could I burn all that information back to a cd and create my own Win 98 cd??? I know someone out there has done this. It would be nice to have the cd because sometimes when installing new stuff the OS wants the cd.

I heard, don't know how true it is, that they have to provide you with the actual CD and not the "restore disk". Wifes old computer had a restore cd and I don't think there was any way of getting a real one off of it.

Summerall, you should have at least got a restore CD. If this is a new pc, call them back ask tell them that when you boot up, it ask for the cd and won't go any further. See what they say....

Gotta love those big computer manufacturers. They'll give ya a free printer,scanner,speakers but no Windows cd.. That is awsome.

Look on your HD for a folder called Win98 or CABS. It will likely be 140MB or so, that is the entire Win98 cd rom files needed to install win98.

if you fax ms your coa and send them $20 (i think its $20), they'll send you a cd

ibm doesn't provide the cd either. why should I pay 4k for a thinkpad and not get the cd?

when you buy a box, it's an oem which means your practically paid nothing for win98. I didn't buy a box so I had to buy the full retail win98. and they even offer you a way to make disk's or order one for a minor fee. You eventually get/got what you payed for. Even if you pay $20 for it, it's still much less than what I paid for it.
