True, but that's not the case here. Anand himself has seen an nV35 in action, if it truly does come out in June, I'd feel like a SCHMUCK buying 9800 in May. You always want the latest if you're spending $400 on a VGA, and you don't want it to be last gen in 4 weeks.

No one can really say that definitively until we can actually get our hands on the card and see some real benchmarks. Even so, the point is there is always something better just around the corner. A 3.06 ghz Northwood doesnt turn into a worthless piece of junk just because the Canterwood was released. Similarly the Radeon 9800 pro wont turn into a pumpkin when the NV35 comes out. It will still be a great card. It just wont be the current king of the hill.

Hey

Talking about buying and shipping, thats what i plan to do... I have to make a desicion first.. im a gamer on a budget, first of all im running a 2200+, on a Soltek SL-75FRN2-L wif 512mb PC3000 DDR.
Im on the hunt for a grafix card, i dont want to spend too much money as upgrading has hurt my pocket enough. i was thinking around the $200usd mark. I was fully keen on a Gainward 4800se, but not so sure now.. should i get a Radeon 9500 pro board, or maybe a 9700 vanilla, or maybe even wait a couple of weeks and get a 9600 pro. So many choices and so many misleading web sites, it seems that everytime i decide on a card i see a web site that says one of the others is betta.. someone set me straight please!!!!
I obviously want to be able to play current games at a very acceptable fps.. but more importantly i want to be able to play the upcomming games such as Doom 3 and Half life 2 at a decent fps as well... as i live in new zealand and you wouldnt beleive how expensive it is to buy computer parts here or in the US for that matter (as the exchange rate is shocking.. my $1 gets me us 50 cents... and im on $10 an hour.. so yeah you get my drift, this is an upgrade that has to last a while)
Thanks for your replys in advance!

re: Canada vs. US cards

Yeah, they sell everything here, but I guess local retailers are trying to unload their GeF4 Ti and MX right now. I could always order from one of the few US online retailers that ship to Canada, but exchange rates, shipping costs, and border charges makes that rather non-feasible (it's far cheaper to just buy it locally). Similarly, going through a third party in the US creates obvious problems for warranties, support, etc.

Regardless, compared to US prices, the ATI cards are typically slightly cheaper here relative to Nvidia cards, so that certainly factors into any buying decision.

Sorry for the off-topic digression :)

About as intelligent as your usual BS.

At the moment I have a GF4MX420 @ 290/190. It is not the best performer :::((((

BUT - it works for me, especially costing only 65$ and that´s the point: If you want the fastest - go buy it (9800PRO).
Else get the nextbest and save a couple or three of 100s.

AND I have a question: Has anyone else but me recognised that in some resolutions running 3dmark2001se in the first gamescene (LowRez) there is an oilbarrel missing - but only on nVidia´s???????????

Thats why I am NOT going to buy nVidia the next time :disgust:

RANT MODE ON

You know....flaming and boasting the NV35 is really quite pointless. Practically none of us know what kind of a performer it is so saying my future card is better than yours is retarded. So what if Nvidia screwed up the NV30. Yes it was a wash, but it still performs rather well considering it's faults. True the 9800/9700 out perform it, but it is not that big a leap. Me....I am just gona wait and see and go with what is best and not argue over something that is not even out yet.

And while I am ranting...why all the anti Nvidia stuff anyway?? For alot of years they have put out solid cards with great drivers, something ATI has not always had. I would think even ATI fnas should be happy for the NV35 since it will drop the prices of the ATI cards.

Speculation/and some is ok, but supportless bashing something you know almost nothing about based on rumor is just plain stupid. When Anand does the review....that is when we will know for sure.

Like others have said, wait for the NV35 release and numbers to get published. nVIDIA has a big task ahead of them with the Radeon 9800 in front. It'll be better to hold out 'till we all know how the card performs before investing in either card.

While somewhere in the subject of 9800... what is ATi's plans on the .13 version of the 9800? And if such a thing is planned, any timetable on it? I got that itch for a new card but I'm also struggling to hold back on getting one at the same time. It's just so that I'll know what my options are for the time being and for the future.
