Butteryfly Effect DVD question

Please no spoilers! I just rented "The Butterfly Effect", and on one side of the DVD is the theatrical version, the other side is the Director's cut, with an alternate ending.

I'm wondering which version to watch, I usually like the director's cuts, but how do you pick when there are two different endings and you don't know what either one is? Has anyone seen both, and if so, which version do you reccomend? I know I can just flip the DVD and watch the other ending after seeing it once, but I'd rather watch the best one first.

Again please, don't post any spoilers.

I prefer the 2nd one. In the first one the trans continum crystals which powers the machine at the end work flawlessly and nothing really happens, however in the 2nd one the crystals have a minute flaw in them which causes the destruction of the machine as they pass the Jupiter effect, causing them to be "permanently" trapped in the Vortex. Although, no one knows if its permanent or not, thats just where the movie ends.

I havn't seen the directors cut but I've seen the movie and I liked it. So I'd say just watch the movie...

Speaking of 2 endings, I want to know the alternate ending to Swordfish? anyone?

THere were several alternate endings. In one of them, Halle Berry and Travoltra don't escape with the money. In the others, it's just different ways of them escaping with the money.

Neither. You'd be better off spending your money buying cloud insurance.

Whats cloud insurance? 😕

Look at them up there... plotting. They're bound to attack sooner or later, wouldn't you rather be ensured when it happens?

I have only seen the theatrical, but I just read an IMDB about the DC and alternate scenes/ending. I think the TC is more satisfying, but the DC more powerful? Most people posting in that thread preferred the TC.

OK, watched it last night, here's my opinion: I watched the Director's cut, and I thought the ending was kind of stupid (though it does make you think that what he does at the end may have been done 3 times before). I flipped the DVD and watched the theatrical version ending, I thought it was much better, The problem is, if you watch the theatrical version, you won't know how much else is different from the director's cut.

All in all I thought it was an OK film. Ashton Kutcher is about on par with Sally Struthers as a serious actor, the rest of the cast did OK. It was worth watching, though I doubt I'll watch it again.

This movie was horrible. I only saw the directors cut, and don't plan on watchint hte theatrical version. I wish I could get my 2 hours back 🙁

Duh, I rented it and watched just the director's cut because I assumed it just added in an extra conversation here and there. I had no idea it was an alternate ending. Can someone please PM me a summation of the theatrical ending?

I rented it yesterday and watched the theatrical version: the storyline wasn't horrible, I kinda liked the movie. The downside, obviously, is that Ashton Kutcher delivers a performance that makes Keanu Reeves look like Humphrey Bogart in comparison; I've seen 2x4's that aren't as stiff as AK.

LOL. I think he realizes it and summed it up in the movie Cheaper by the Dozen when his aspiring actor character Hank said: "This is the moneymaker! I'm not that good of an actor! This is how I get the jobs, I know that."

Thanks to my kids I have had to endure that cruddy movie more than once.
