I just made a nice toasty Albacore sandwich and just realized I had used some butter on my bread that had been out on the counter for a few days. Am I going to die? :Q

leaving butter on the counter won't cause you harm the worst that will happen is the fat becomes oxidized by light/heat and you get a rancid tasting butter. Better butter is left in the fridge.

But, butter from the fridge is hard. It does not spread well and tears up the bread. :(

Blast from the past? I don't think this thread will be as long as that "other" butter thread.

That was not my intent. I just wanted the lowdown on counter butter, vs. refrigerated. Mostly what I wanted to find out is will it kill me to eat it.

Since we have the thread up, we could butter up some old times too. :D

Betty Butter bought a butter,
But the butter Betty Butter
bought was too bitter,
So Betty Butter bought a
better butter to make the
bitter butter better.

i leave it out. it's a pain if it's too hard to spread. (oh, the possibilities for a pun) anyhoo... we go through a stick a week, and it has never gone bad sitting in a covered butter dish for a week.

soft spread butter (oh the puns) spreads fine whether on the counter for days or in the fridge. stick butter is fine on the counter, unless you like it hard.

Get a butter dish with a cover... I have one that has a seperate chamber underneath that you put water in. Supposedly it does something to keep it fresh. Butt stays perfectly soft for a week or so. Usually doesn't even last that long.
