hi folks )

Became the extremely fortunate one to get the gaming rig of my dreams...SLI with 2 512mb GeForce 7800 GTXs.
What I've run into is a few games that refuse to run at a resolution higher than my desktop (1280X1024). Thankfully its only 2 games so far...HL 2 and Call of Duty 2. All the others I have installed, 10 other games actually, will run at 1600X1200 with no problems.
Now that I have the horsepower to run anything at 1600X1200 with AA and AF cranked up, By Golly, thats what I WANT to do!!
Guess what i'm asking is how to most easily arrange for those games to still run at the higher res and keep my desktop res where it is? Can it be done in a profile? I dont see a provision to change a res in a nVidia profile unless I missed something...third party proggy maybe?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and thx in advance )

if you have an LCD you're screwed (they dont run higher than native res, so im limited to 1280x1024, which is plenty big :D)

oh yeah, how the HELL did you get your hands on not 1, but 2 7800 512's? i thought they were more rare than the sought after duke nukem forever :p

Have a CRT monitor...
Sony 21in GDM F520...best they had before they quit making them. It supports resolutions way higher than i'd ever use.

All the major PC vendors will supply 512mb 7800s if ordered on a custom built. You might have to wait a bit tho. In my case, it was Velocity Micro. My order got delayed 6 days was all....and worth the wait! )

no offence but is this thread a joke???...................if not, you set your resoultion IN GAME and it would be saved automatically into a config file...then whenever you launch your game, it would run at that resolution and when exit, it would return back to desktop res....

You should be able to run games in a resolution even higher than that. I run most games in 1600 on my single 7800gt..

 to the dual 512's!

No...no joke. I simply wanted to know...LIKE I SAID, if there was a a way to adjust my desktop to the same res I want to run a particular game at. The games mentioned WONT RUN at a res set IN GAME that exceeds what I have my desktop set at. My monitor is kicked to a stby mode with a black screen....only way to recover is a hard reboot.
Yes, I could readjust my desktop res to 1600X1200, and then run those games at that res then set it back when done, but that seems like kinda a pain...wouldnt you agree?

SOOooo...yes, I "could" run those game at insane anything....and I'D LIKE TO! lol

And as far as 1600X1200...yes, I can run any game at the maximum res the cards support...think its like 2000+ or some such, but I also want to run 8X AA 16X AF all the lighting and any other effects maxed...a few games start to chug even with 2 512s!!!...F.E.A.R. and NFS MW for example...1600X1200 with everything maxed seems to be the sweet spot for the most demanding games with my rig

thx again for input )
