I'm so tired of the front desk people getting all butthurt about the fact that I refuse to give a credit card for "incidentals". Every time I do they charge me for all kinds of crap.

I just checked into a Hyatt and the girl at the desk was just stunned! "Well... uhhh... You'll have to give us a $50 deposit then for incidentals."

No. I don't.

"You won't be able to use any services!"

You're right. I won't.

"I'll have to ask my manager..."

Happens every stinking time. They always give me a room since the room is paid for by my company, but are really bothered by the fact that I won't let them put holds on my funds "just in case". Screw that.

I used to try to explain that, but always got the Radio Shack stare. Now I just say no. Sigh. At least the bed is comfy. It better be... I'm here for 8 nights. 😀

I was put up by ATI in the Fairmont in San Fran for 3 days once. I could have emptied the mini bar each day but I would have felt bad 😛

What's funny is I offered to stay in a Super 8 Motel this time to save money and was turned down. I feel bad being in this $200 a night hotel when we just layed off 3800 people.

Why don't you just give your company's credit card? I don't see what the big deal is. They shouldn't charge you if you don't do anything that costs money and if they do, then you complain to the credit card company and the charges are reversed.

If I had one I would.

I've stayed too many times where they lock down $50-100 PER NIGHT. After a couple weeks the charges drop off, but it locks up too much of my available funds. Top that off with stuff like $5 per day for "amenities" (newspaper that I never asked for), and you see what my issue is.

It's just better to tell 'em no up front.

I'm the exact same way; I'm very defensive about my money and personal information.

I love it when I go to Best Buy and the pimple faced bimbo at the register says "May I have your home phone number, area code first please?"

I just say "No." And stare at her blankly. 😀

Oh. My company requires us to break down expenses if we use something in the room but I have never noticed a separate line-item charge for any of the not an active decision amenities. Internet, mini-bar, movies, room-service, parking, etc will all be on the folio but never the newspaper. I think the newspaper is usually worded to be that they will remove some amount from your daily bill if you refuse delivery.

That sucks though about not having a company card and the hotel putting a hold on so much of your money. Are you paying the room out of pocket too and getting reimbursed later?

No, thankfully. I'd never be able to travel! I make good money, but I'm married... 😉

Hotel, flight, and rental car are all direct billed. Just nothing else is.
 
Not only that but the $50 charge stays automaticaaly on your CC Bill for one month.

It's BS and should not be tolerated but the American Sheeple cave as usual to unlawful and shady business practices.

These Corporate Whores are making a mint on the interest alone.

i don't remember ever getting charaged extra for it, but then again, it's a company card, so i don't care.
