Busting a scammer

I do have his name and phone number, but like I said, the name was obtained "unoficially" through a bit of social engineering at a Nextel shop. Will the cops still take it? I also managed to find his myspace profile and some other online profile crap, looks like he's a rather sick f*ck.

PS: It was a fairly well-equipped Dell 700m, so the price I paid for it was nothing out of ordinary and didn't raise any red flags.

It can't hurt to pass the info on. You already know that cops are willing to visit you and point guns at you for this level of theft, why not share the experience with the nice scammer?

Go directly to your local P.D., ask for the investigating officer and hand them the info on this scumbag, if they ask where you got this info, tell them that it is confidential.
