ive got a tdk 52x cdrw drive. it doesnt work. it reads cds just fine, but it wont burn anything. it starts preparing the disc, but then cant finish, rendering the disc unusable. this happens in every program ive tried, including itunes, nero, and windows itself. music cds or data, it still screws up.

i burn things so irregularly that i waited a really long time to deal with it (not that big of a deal, especially since decent burners can be had these days for under $30), and my warranty has expired. is there anything i could be doing wrong? ive unplugged and replugged everything a bunch of times, and ive reinstalled every driver i can find.

also, i have trouble burning images, even when im not actually physically burning a disc- dont know if thats related.

only other options would be to try re-installing chipset drivers for motherboard, and maybe switching it from slave/master /vice versa

other than that, burners have a shelf life, if nothing else works, i'd say it's just fubar.

I've seen that more than once before... damn things.

that happened with my MSI DVD burner a couple weeks ago. It wouldn't burn cd's or dvd's (same exact issue, with the disks being unusable). it was the DVD burner.

some suggestions to try:

-put the burner on a single channel (ie: no other drives connected in the ide cable)
-uninstall/reinstall drivers
-update firmware if availible

in my case, I tried the dvd burner in a friends system and it gave me the same problems. at least it gave me a reason to upgrade to a 16x dual-layer burner, though :)

Hey, if your drive is black and you determine that it is broken for good, can I get the front bezel from you? I have a working 40x VeloCD that is beige and it would look nice if I was able to get a black bezel for it :)

lol. sorry- its beige, and it still works as a cdrom, so ill be keeping it.

sometimes i think apples biggest contribution to the computing world was the imac, and how it started killing beige. what idiot decided all computer stuff should be beige?!
