good deal

If that is true that it looks like a reprive for those that were unable to get the Lite-On LDW-411S deal at BB, OD, and CC.

Anyone jump on this? I missed the Lite-On at BB, and I'm wondering what this is a re-badge of. I've gotten Lite-on CDRW drives for BusLink before. . .

The Buslink I got is a rebadged NEC 1300A. The model # on the outside of the box is DVRW412RD, but I'm not sure that means anything.

Ok, question, most reviews say that the Pioneer A06 or the Sony are the best dvd burners to get. How do these lite-ons, NECs, optorites, etc, compare? Anyone know? :)

Anyone get a buslink that was a lite-on? Usually 12 digit serial number all numeric I believe...At least it was on the cdrw drives. Of course true proof is once someone has opened up the box...:)

No Serial # on the box. NEC 1300A was noted on the drive itself. Why did you want a lite-on over the NEC?

he wants a Liteon as its reg CD burning speed is a little faster..I use my NEC for mainly one thing tho..use my LG-4480B(DVD-read only/CDRW..) to do my CD burning mostly..;)

I have a few rebadged liteon cdrws and I am familiar with the workings. Are NECs better?
Have an LTD-163D(Buslink) and a PacDigital/Liteon 48(40?..haven't looked at it in awhile)x12x48...on my 2nd NEC-1300A..first one was black from AVLogic..sold it for what I paid for it..using the PacDigital reboxed one(beige/white) at the moment..both have been problem-free for me. :) As always..ymmv. ;)

People are creatures of habit. Lite-On made a name for themselves by offering CD burners that were on the cutting edge in terms of the price/features ratio.

Unfortunately, they are late-comers to the DVD burner game, and their DVD burner drives are far from the head of the pack. They feature the best CD writing speeds, true, but aren't particularly good at burning DVDs, which is why you buy them, right? Relatively mediocre compatibility with media.

The NEC 1300a drive came out a lot earlier, and is a lot more stable. It's a good all-around drive. It's a better DVD burner than Lite-On offers at this time.

(Who has been around long enough to remember when Lite-On stood for crap on toast, back in the CDrom days).

NEC may have came out with their ND-1300a 4x DVD drive before Lite On had a 4x DVD drive on the market, but Lite On now has now caugh up and past NEC with a 8x DVD drive available now, ($146 shipped on pricewatch.com), while we are still waiting for a 8x DVD drive from NEC.
Also Lite On is already working on a 12x & 16x drives. Quote: 12x models will be offered in the first quarter of 2004, with 16x ones in the second half

Taiwanese DVD drive makers look beyond 8x burning

Here's a review of the Lite On 4x dual LDW-411S drive

My buslink is a lite-on, but it's a +r not a +/-... Got it yesterday and I was wondering why the drive was so short, system booted up and detected it as a lite-on ldw-401s

If you got it from Staples, they clearly sold you the wrong drive. It's advertised as +/- on their website.

Just got back from b&m Staples, brought in a copy of the webpage, coupon worked fine at register. it is a NEC 1300a rebadge and comes with 1 dvd+rw, Easy CD Creator Basic 6.1 DVD edition, PowerDVD XP and the usual cables. Also picked up a pack of 25 Imation DVD-R (also had dvd+r's for same price) for $30, half off original sticker price, no speed listed on them though...

I picked one up yesterday and it it an NEC.

No problem getting the on-line price at the store. The burner price is $149.99 and the CSR entered the coupon code from the product page to get it to $99.99.
