Since having the probelm I have mentioned in another posting, we are stopping use on our Canoscan 8400F scanner and instead we be looking into purchasing a Business Quality Scanner.

Does anyone have recommendations on a flatbed scanner of this type?

Indeed ... are you unhappy about the robustness of the scanner itself, about its speed, the quality of the scans, the suitability for certain tasks (books, stacks of paperwork, etc.)?
