I'm doing some IT work for a guy. I'm setting up a wireless network, upgrading a few computers and a few other things. After I got all the information from the guy he said he wanted a new computer that would last him 3-4 years. Now i'm a gamer so 3-4 years to me means like a 2-3k rig. But all this guy would need it for is his business. He owns an auto repair shop, he's got 3 computers, the one i'm building would be his 4th. I'm not sure what to set this guy up with so i'm asking for some help. I'm assuming onboard video and audio would be fine, 512mb ram, DVD-ROM, and a AMD 2800/3000+ 754 socket. I don't know thats just off the top of my head. Looking for sugguestions.

Also just had a questions about wireless since i'm new to it. I know most routers have 4 ports in them for ethernet cords, but how many computers can connect wirelessly? Only 4 or can it support more?

IMO... just order him a Dell. He gets a prebuilt system with a monitor, OS and warranty for not much more than you could build one. Bill him for the cost of the computer, plus setup/installation.

As for the wireless router, I believe that the only real limit to the # of wireless users would be the IP address limit. You would be limited to 255 computers total (wired and wireslss) since the IP range can go up to 256, but 1 is reserved for the router itself. But I think that your average wireless router/broadband service would slow down considerably if you got anywhere near that #.

I was going to look into a Dell as well since it comes with a monitor. Thanks for the info on the wireless router as well.
