"business casual dress"

new job starting monday, they say "business casual" for dress code.

are black shirts considered inappropriate attire?

What kind of shirts? If they have a collar then yes. If not, no.

They are fine. Just make sure it is actually black and not a dark grey as it is worn in a bit too much.
