Business card scanner

mrzed

Senior member
Like the title says, I am looking for a modestly priced business card scanner to quickly convert a stack of cards into Outlook contacts. Ideally USB, and free from bloatwear, as it is a simple requirement.

Apologies if this was better for GH, but it seemed more likely OT would have answers for me.

I tried a card scanner a couple of years ago and it wasn't worth the trouble. It couldn't scan and convert the data using OCR anywhere near accurately enough. I still had to proof read every card entered, and usually retype several of the fields.

In the end, I returned the card reader and just entered them by hand, I had about 250 to do, so I just did 10 or 20 each day and by the end of the third week, they were all done.

That's what I'm wondering.

OTOH, perhaps the OCR on these things have improved. Either way, I'll be buying at a B&M so that I can return it easily if unsatisfactory.

The time it takes to research, go buy, install, learn to use, and actually use the scanner would probably exceed the time you'd end up using just typing them in by hand. Do a few at a time. For the typing you already did, you could've entered a few cards. 100 really isn't that many.
