Bush's security alert causes.. changes... at UTexas??

In response to President Bush raising the national threat level to orange
(high), our campus will institute various security measures. Faculty,
staff, and students can expect the following:


Effective immediately
Campus tours and events
. UT Austin Tower tours are cancelled until further notice.
. Individuals attending special events on campus may experience moderate
delays due to additional security measures. Officials advise arriving early
for events at any of the campus public venues.


Effective Monday, February 10, 2003
Campus access and parking
. Vehicles without UT permits will NOT be allowed to enter the main campus.
They will be directed to the parking garages. Pickle Research Campus will
direct vehicles without UT permits to designated lots. Exceptions to this
measure are as follows:
o Visitors authorized by a Vice President or Dean who present
identification
o Vendor vehicles displaying company name or logo
. Drivers of vendor vehicles displaying company name or logo will be asked
to present their operator licenses and company identification card.
. All vehicles entering campus may be subject to random consent searches.


Building access
. A metal detector will be placed at the Tower entrance.
. Only authorized personnel will be allowed Tower access. Photo
identification and key will be required.
. Selected buildings will be secured at all times.

That's what I'm wondering.. are we a target??? Bush was rejected from UT... terrorists should send us flowers or something.

Also, I didn't know we had a Pickle Research Campus. I'm going to have to check that out. I like pickles and would like to see what our fine university has in mind for the future of pickles.
