"Glad to know people are smart"

Often heard quote regarding the support Johnson received about the Gulf of Tonkin incident.

Less then half woohoo!

And:

While the president's overall job score is up, 48 percent of Americans disapprove of the way he is dealing with Iraq, and just 36 percent think Bush has a clear plan for bringing the situation in Iraq to a successful conclusion

compairing Iraq to Nam seems rather naive no? based on geography and landscape alone Iraq is a much easier territory to have a land battle than Nam, plus body count isn't nearly as high in Iraq as it was in Nam, nor is there a mandatory draft...

The better example is Russia and Afghanistan. We didn't fight that one though.

The problem is we have a substatial population we are in effect trying to dominate, but do not have the practical luxury of exterminating. Is the desert the jungle? Of course not, but that is not the point. The mess is the issue. As far as body counts. Multiply the lives lost last month and multiply them by however long we are there.

Is it an EXACT analogy? Nope, but close in the ways that matter.

David Halberstram said recently that Iraq isn't VN. It has the potential to be far far worse. I hope he's wrong.

Ill agree to a point, Yet this time our Greater enemy isnt a brand of government, rather than an extreme brand oof religion. Plus the country is more touchy about any body count these days.

We didnt start off Nam with an Immediate 40% of the population dissatifyed. The anger grew over the years.

Less then half woohoo!

Which, by coincidence, is the amount Bush won the election by...

Wait a minute. Check out Reuters. It says that his approval rating is at an all-time low...

Reuters

Who to believe?

EDIT: Damn, beaten to it...

That poll was done by a liberal newspaper, what do you expect? Until foxnews comes with their poll i'm not gonna look at anything.

Just kidding. Basically the polls just show that the election is gonna be close, and that people are strongly divided on Bush. They don't really say much else. Hopefully Bush will be out of office. Take a look at www.gallup.com . An overwhelming number of people think that a stable democracy cannot be created in Iraq. That is a disturbing poll.

Right. Hopefully SPEWSMAX will sort out this evil liberal ploy to besmirch the Chosen One. :p

I don't care which side you agree with, if you give approval-rating polls any merit you're a dumbass.
