Bush's 9-11?

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind is closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar." -- Julius Caesar

Sound familiar?

How ironic, Nazi germany and modern day U.S.

Altho at this time, atleast you don't get killed for opposing the government. You just get dismissed as a 'sympathizer' or at worst case labled as a person with 'terrorist ties'.

EDIT: I guess the next step is for them to say you committed 'treason'.

The JC quote was more fitting a few years ago, too many people are waking up for that to be the case now.

Well, just to play the devil's advocate here, most of the "treason talk" comes from the supporters of the Bushies, not the Bushies themselves. But still, Bush has done very little to convince me that his is an administration where dissenting opinions are valued and respected. In fact, quite the opposite, although not quite as much crazy as all the foaming at the mouth crowd on places like freerepublic, screaming "TRAITOR" at anyone who thinks that maybe Bush's approach isn't the right way to fight terrorism.

It's true, and mainly because, unlike the vast majority of dictatorships and other Nazi-ish forms of government, the government does not control the flow of information. Bush and his justice department can make as many claims as they want about the legality of the NSA program, but when almost every news story on the subject includes information from unbiased organizations like the CSR and well respected legal experts suggesting the program was illegal...and very few have information or analysis pointing the other way, it makes most people go "hmm".

Edit: In other words, I believe we have a control over the government that few civilizations in history have had...an ability to, for lack of a better phrase, expose their bullshit. I think it's no coincidence that so many of the people who are fanatical supporters of expanded executive power are also violently opposed to the idea of a free and independent media (although they don't say it in so many words...).

You think we control [/i]them[/i]? LMAO. What a knee slapper.

May I remind you that the U.S. government is the most powerful government that has ever existed in the history of the world.

I think he is saying we can critisize our government, just not in those words. As for trying to hand out punishment (charges) to government officials, well let's just be nice and say 'it's not likely' ;)

Those that are comparing modern America are really saying that Nazi Germany wasn't that bad at all. I really wish there was a time machine so people like you could go back into Nazi Germany and really experience what it was like. Then you can compare that to America. Those that call Bush a Hitler are really saying Hitler wasn't that bad at all.

Do not downplay Nazi Germany, do not downplay Hitler. Our country currently and our leader are nothing compared to them. Come to your senses.

As of today we still have the right to openly question and critisize (SP?) our government. I am sure at some point the same held true in Nazi Germany, until the time came when people where imprisioned or made to disappear.

I think my senses are doing just fine thank you.

Hitlers buildup lasted over 15 years. When Bush is compared to Hitler they usually mean during his early politcal career. Hitler created enemies for the Germans (Jews), used theatrical methods when giving speeches, spread propaganda supporting the cause, then when the time was right took power by force, overall making everything a black & white issue. The Neo-Cons seem to use alot of the same techniques to gain gain support, so there is a valid comparison.

There is / was a really good series on the History Channel about Hitler and Nazi germany if you care to catch it.

About 10 mins after Hitler took control.

We are going on the 6th full year of Bush and keep waiting for the promises from the left that our country is about to become another Nazi Germany.

Please so do the liberals, they create enemies and scapegoats(neo-cons, Bush), they use theatrical methods when giving speeches(alito hearings, most any public event), and spread propoganda supporting the cause(Michael Moore movies, Moveon.org), then when the time is right they will take power by force(promising to have a trial of impeachment for bush when they get the congress back in 06).

What you described above applies to anything political.

I don't see us ever going that far, but there are still enough parallels that are chilling. Worse case is that the neo cons keep control making the US highly Authoritarian with powerful corporations that set policy, and keep us in perpetual war (fear).

Hehe, didn't realize you were comparing me to the standard I set for the Nazis / Bush. The major difference is I will never / don't want any postion of power, try again :)

edit: And for the record I don't want the Democrats to control all three branches, I don't want any single party to control all three like now. The best situation for the nation is mixed control. None of what I post here is about my party winning, but what I think is best for America (legally, morally, socially) and is of course my opinion.
