Actually Bush has ditched plans to require Americans to show passports when returning from Mexico and Canada. Instead there will be "an inexpensive, efficient, inter-operable travel system card"

Up to now you just needed a drivers license but by 2008 you would have needed a passport. I guess this is a better idea. Unless they get the Medicare Drug companies to issue the cards.
