If he can't get this to work in his own house what makes him think it will work for the country? Can you say pandering to the right?

Well he isn't throwing fiscal conservatives any bones with his out of control spending and deficits, so he has to at least pander to social conservatives if he wants to keep a "conservative" label and actually turn out any of his base.

BugsBunny. The old "either this or that" argument. This may be hard to believe, but a great many adults (and some children) think that there are choices between the extremes.

I think teaching people not to deny their carnal instincts is a good thing. Being a relatively young person I'm a little sick of seeing people I knew in High School pregnant, unmarried, and with an uncommitted father.

I think it's selling human beings short to resign to the fact that we're animals and can't control ourselves enough not to hump. I can choose not to act on certain urges whereas my neighbors dogs will hump a pretty LEG when it walks by. Not cool.

Teaching Abstinence is not a bad idea. Teaching only Abstinence is royally stupid.

Sandorski's right. Really good sex-ed emphasizes abstinence, for a variety of reasons, while providing other information that can be useful even in the most committed of relationships later on in life.

Besides that, teen hormones pretty much demand defense in depth to actually be successful across the board at pregnancy and disease prevention.

Failure to provide teens with every known tool in this effort is a helluva lot less moral than any sexual activity they might engage in, despite the pious moralizations of the fundie christian right.

Edit- Sp.

No. But it should not stop safe-sex education programs as this administration has done. If teenagers are going to have sex, they better be able to get easy access to information and condoms.
The current administration has stopped funds to the World Health Organization if I remember correctly for sex education. That is completly fvcking stupidity driven by morons that can't accept that not everyone in the world is as religiosly bent as they are. sure let's cut funds for information and prevention and just tell people not to do it, because our imaginary friend says so. that will work.

Exactly. If you were to ask anyone involved in sex education, they would say abstinance is preferable, but if you're going to have sex, you should protect yourself. Bush essentially wants to prevent the last statement from being made, which causes more problems than it solves.

How about we teach kids how to be abstinent with the condom on? ;)
So we won't actually talk about sex, but tell boys that if you are gonna stick your wiener anywhere, without being specific, put on a condom. :D
Problem solved.
