President Bush set limits yesterday on White House cooperation in three political disputes, saying he is determined to assert presidential prerogatives on such matters as domestic eavesdropping and congressional inquiries into Hurricane Katrina.

In a mid-morning news conference, Bush told reporters he is skeptical of a proposed law imposing new oversights on his use of the National Security Agency to listen in on electronic communications. He also said that he will block White House aides from testifying about the slow federal response to Hurricane Katrina, and that he will not release official White House photos of himself with former Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Facing repeated questions, Bush distanced himself from Abramoff, who is at the center of the biggest political corruption and bribery scandal in a generation. Bush said he does not recall having his picture taken with Abramoff or ever meeting him. Abramoff was a member of the exclusive club of Bush's $100,000 fundraisers known as Pioneers.

Ok. I find the third issue confusing. Bush is refusing to turn over official White House pictures of himself and Abramhoff (pictures the taxpayers paid for?). And then Bush says there are no pictures. But he said there were pictures but he wouldn't trun them over. Then he said there weren't any pictures?

If he's refusing the Katrina investigation I guess that means that insead of the federal problems being Brown's fault the president shares some responsibility.

Wow. Every time I long on I find another step has been taken. Wonder where we'll all end up before this is all said and done.

Ah yes, because trying to curb a power grab is not getting on with buisness. I guess we should get congree to start building some more churches and re-instated prayers into schools rather than try and compromise the one and only true Saint, I mean, President.

You mean the President took pictures with Jack Abramoff. The way he takes, oh, hundreds of thousands of pictures with people per year?

Heck, I have a picture with Bill Clinton.

But not everyone was on his 2000 Transition team and helped pick the heads of the Dept. of Interior.

Hyopethical-

Suppose in the 2008 election a candidate for President runs on a platform of pulling out of Iraq. This candidate wins the election.

President Bush decides this would be dangerous to the USA. Does his interpretation of the powers of the President mean he doesn't have to step down and let the newly elected President take office ?

THis is interesting to say because the republican congress (whether or not they will be in power after 06) will still have to contend with constituents and governing, something that this administration is making increasing difficult to do. If this administration doesnt cooperate with these issues, I think you will begin to see more and more republican representatives break ranks and fend for themselves. Bush is only in power for a few more years. The GOP party should start thinking beyond those years.

or I could be just talking out my bvtt like some people around here.

Many don't seem to mind Bush taking away their Right to Privacy for the reason that they have nothing to hide. Why don't they expect the same of Bush?

Now that is something to be scared about. But I dont think we will ever see that happening. By the looks of Mr. Bush I would say he can't wait to get out from under the pressure.

so he can go back to BOOZIN YEEEEHAAWWWWW!

Sources say that the picture is of Bush, Abramoff and Tribal Leaders that have been convicted of embezzlement.

Wouldn't surprise me.

Looks like he is headed down the road President's Nixon, Reagan, and CLinton went down. Try to cover it up until it explodes.

Because the man only had dozens of people, each helping in picking the heads of what, 14 departments 6 years ago?

So Zendari, tell me this: if Bush is completely innocent, and has only a tenuous relationship with Abramoff, why not release the pictures?

I'll take one out of the neo-con handbook here: If you're not guilty, what've you got to hide?
