Bush press conference 2/28

HomerJS

Exerpts from Bush's latest press conference...

1st part says he knows nothing of predictions of $4/gal gas prices this summer.
2nd part later says he has been focused on gas prices. WTF??? Was that just a lie or severe ineptness? Can't wait for this guy to go!

1st part
Q What's your advice to the average American who is hurting now, facing the prospect of $4 a gallon gasoline, a lot of people facing --

THE PRESIDENT: Wait, what did you just say? You're predicting $4 a gallon gasoline?

Q A number of analysts are predicting --

THE PRESIDENT: Oh, yeah?

Q -- $4 a gallon gasoline this spring when they reformulate.

THE PRESIDENT: That's interesting. I hadn't heard that.

Q Yes, sir.

THE PRESIDENT: Yes. I know it's high now.

2nd part
Q Any restrictions on who can give? Will you take foreign money for this?

THE PRESIDENT: Yes, I'll probably take some foreign money, but don't know yet, Ken. We just haven't -- we just announced
the deal and I, frankly, have been focused elsewhere, like on gasoline prices and, you know, my trip to Africa, and haven't seen
the fundraising strategy yet. So the answer to your question, really, I can't answer your question well.

If you want to read it yourself

the thing about that is, some other goofball (not dave though) can 'predict' $5/gallon gas and everyone is supposed to focus on that?

i don't really get this thing as a news item

yes , some day, perhaps soon, gas will be $4/gal

then sometime later it will be $5/gal

then it'll go to $6/gal

no shit sherlock

When the botton drops out, somebody is going to be stuck in the drivers seat. And unlike Reagan, it now looks like GWB is not going to be able to sneak out before the botton drops out. And will have to field the consequences of his own failed policies as his various advisers are no doubt telling him.

The price of gasoline is just one of his many worries.

Since telling the truth to the American people does make the problem worse because they will curtail the spending that keeps the economy vibrant for a while longer, its no surprise GWB tries to minimize the problems. That plus the fact that he never had any descent motives to begin with other than feathering his own ego, makes deep in denial the knee jerk response.

Sort of a adolescent, "gee willikers, Mrs. McGillicity, I had no idea bashing your window with a baseball bat could cause any damage." GWB may be dumber than a box of rocks, but the President is supposed to have smarter people telling him he is courting disaster.

I saw that part of the news conference, and I tend to agree with what Lemon Law says. I don't for a second believe that a President (especially one so tied to the oil & gas interests) isn't fully aware of the projected trend in gas prices. GWB delivered his response with his trademark smirk, and I think he was trying to be cute by playing dumb. Several problems with his response:

-if prices do spike upward, you can be sure you'll see this portion of the news conference replayed ad nauseum in Democratic TV commercials,

-he gave a great opportunity for Obama to skew him-and McCain by reference-which he did immediately (perhaps Hillary should pay less attention to Saturday Night Live and more attention to the real world?),

-and most importantly, where a sizeable portion of your audience already thinks you may be an idiot, playing the buffoon is not the best tactic to persuade them with your leadership ability and policy choices.

There are probably also analysts predicting the next "Great Depression", but that does not mean that will happen. I guess if it goes too high, then that $400.00 bicycle will look pretty good.

Can you say Moped?

I've got just under 20 miles each way to work. I'd love to pickup a scooter but there's 2 problems...

1. It gets miserably hot in FL for 6-8 months of the year and the 'sweathog' look wouldn't go over in the office.

2. Traffic is pretty heavy here and combined with construction I wouldn't feel safe in a sea of cars and SUV's.

<kanye west> George Bush doesn't care about your gas prices, people</kanye west>

Nice that Bushwhacko is so far removed from reality...not.
