"Bush said the program, known as the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership, would eventually be expanded to help emerging economies develop nuclear fuel supplies.

"In exchange, these countries would agree to use nuclear power only for civilian purposes and forego uranium enrichment and reprocessing activities that can be used to develop nuclear weapons," he said.

Maybe if we actually got invoved with helping countries build and maintain nuclear power plants we wouldn't have problems with countries like Iran and Korea.

Bush Nookler Plan

Wrong, NK was offered help from the USA to build reactors as long as we controlled the Uranium, and Iran was offered help from Russia. Both turned it down...I wonder why????
for one country to have total power over the "power" of another country would be unacceptable to a whole lot of countries. I doubt the US would be fine with getting its own uranium from Russia with the chance of Russia just cutting off the supply whenever they feel like it.

Something that should be easy to figure out

Yeah . . . I don't think it is likely that many countries will transform their energy industry so that it can be under the indirect control of the US and its closest allies. If the US doesn't allow countries to enrich uranium on their own, this plan is doomed to fail.

Here's some news I just heard.
The Department of Energy no longer even has a timetable for opening the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository. In fact, I wish I had the article, they have essentially given up on Yucca Mountain for the time being.
Plus within about 2 years they must come up with a proposed second site. This one must be on the east coast.
They are looking at granite formations in New Hampshire.
So there really is no plan, at this time, to provide for storage of nuclear waste.
And with the western US a hotly contested area for Presidential politics and with McCain possibly the Republican candidate or our next President, you can be sure it ain't gonna be in New Hampshire or Yucca Mountain anytime soon.

As to Bushes ties to oil, well, nuclear power really won't hurt oil companies. Almost no oil goes into electricity production.

What is wrong with Yucca Mountain??

Iran has also been given the option of having a choice of a bunch of suppliers, but has so far turned down that offer as well.

We don't have a problem with countries with nuclear weapons. Bush has already proven himself, he will attack countries without nuclear weapons, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran/Syrai (soon to be) and leave countries like North Korea alone. Typicall bully attitude, pick on the little guy, but not on someone your own size.

Coincidentally, in March when the dollar gets dumped for the Euro by Iran and we attack, I pray that Russia and/or China will get involved and finally put the jackass in his place, charge him and Cheney with their warcrimes and liberate the American people from this reign of terror.

So you want your entire country invaded by Russia and China just to see Bush and Cheney ride the electric chair?

If you are an american, you are a complete disgusting traitor and if you are not, then a madman praying for the Third World War.

Bush Nookler Plan

This terribly funny.
People wonder why I consider the P&N forums a play ground for kiddies who have no life experiences whatsoever....heheee
