Bush flip-flops and now flop-flips on 527s?

This is getting confusing.

In 2002 he is against the McCain-Feingold, claiming it stifles freedom of speech (see other thread).

A few days ago he wants all 527s off the air (he's getting outspent).

Today his campaign makes a letter to be givin to Cleland with this line with respect to the Swiftboat 527 ads:

There is no double standard for our right to free speech. We all earned it.

Well, do we have freedom of speech with political ads or not? Is it all 527s or just the veteran based ones?

What's funny is they found out Cleland was coming with a letter, they make their own up, fax it all over the place for signitures. They got this guy Patterson on his way to Dallas to rush back to Crawford, sign the letter and offer it to Cleland. Come to find out this Patterson guy was also funded by the same Swiftboat Texan millionaire guy Perry. What a small world.

are you saying you are for 527's. Oh, and btw, nobody ever forsaw 527's happeningor how theyd be used, its a loophole. So Bush didnt ever flipflop on 527s... Oh, and btw, I think that the swift boat vets for truth have done much more damage to kerry than the 4 times amount of money the liberal 527's have done to Bush...

Yep.....

Which shows the insincerity of this situation.

I think unrestricted soft money being given to 527's is dire to our system. Our Presidential candidates seem to believe that money going to 527 groups that bash them is wrong and the others are for the most part condonable.

The joys of politics, no where else on earth can the SBVFT be written off as dogmatic and moveon.org as defensible. (and vice a versa)

Update, now Bush wants to sue for 527 crackdown.

Perhaps Bush has had his eyes opened.....these 527s really need to go away.

The latest from Moveon having RRS tell us about economics is really rediculous...They should have gotten someone who really knows economics, like ben stein, but anti-bush ;)

I rather look at RRS then Ben Stein.

Same here.

Though I suppose you could leave the 527s on and just mute the TV ;)

its because his swiftboat 527 has inflicted the damage it was designed to do, and now that the PRESS, not the tv media, is breathing down his neck on obvious connections, its time to cut it loose and condemn all 527s, effectively removing groups such as moveon.org that actually run commercials based on truth.

You can condemn the content of the ads, but they are legal so condemning the 527 status is hollow. They have been outlawed starting Jan I think. I can care less about the 527s as long as they stick to real issues and don't lie. Bush complains about negative 527s then he puts of some of the most negative, misleading ads out. He has yet another one about a 50 cent gas tax, WTF guys, are you out of material?

BUSH: [T]here are people spending ads that say nice things about me. There are people spending money on ads that say ugly things about me.

PANELIST GLORIA BORGER: Should ...

BUSH: That's part of the American -- let me finish. That's part of the American process. There have been ads, independent expenditures, that are saying bad things about me. I don't particularly care when they do, but that's what freedom of speech is all about. And this allegation somehow that I'm involved with this is just totally ridiculous. It is uncalled for.

[...]

BORGER: [D]o you think you should stop these ads?

BUSH: You know, let me -- let me say something to you. People have the right to run ads. They have the right to do what they want to do, under the -- under the First Amendment in America.

More flip-flopping evidence.

No, I'll show the hypocrisy of the right all day if I want. Either reply to the subject, or scramble back to the right wing forums that Rip recruited you from, noob.

That's a rather obtuse and inaccurate statement.

Todd33 doesn't support Bush, the king of all flip-floppers but yet you think he does.

Screwoff.org is the worst of all flip floppers and the reason why Bush wants to shut down 527s. The Demorats and the left wing whack jobs who know they will lose again are abusing the hell out of they system spending 15 to 1 and still not having any effect on the electorate.

Sad...
