What's new about any of this, if Bush, had an ounce of honesty, you can bet your life the party machine, backroom boys, lobbyists, beaurocrats & corporations he's beholden to, would never have backed him & he would have gotten no where in the party.

Afterall he is a politician.

Say what you will about George W. Bush, but don't joke about his integrity if you happen to be a backer of Al Gore, the man whose told more lies and half-truths than all previous Presidential candidates combined :p

So they both lie. I will take a smart liar over a stupid liar any day of the week.

thebestMAX...what I think he meant was, "I'd take an intelligent person who lies sometimes over a stupid person who lies sometimes." :p

BTW, did you know that Bush was had a problem with alcoholism till he was 40 and he wasn't particularly nice to his family...i'm just saying, I dunno how this fits in as I didn't read the article and frankly am sick of all these threads about politics (this is the first one i've responded to...and read really...for a few weeks.)

Typing,

Actually, Mother Jones is a pretty good site. Not quite as good as The Onion, but it has it's moments.

I don't see how I can reconsile the slam on Gore's (Or more accuretly,Clinton's policies or lack thereof) on alcohol abuse or drug abuse.(At least Gore admitted he did inhale. Bush hasn't admitted anything about his alledged coke snorting days.)

How do these matters equate in balance to the article on shrubs insider trading, oil company scams, bailouts, and cia involvement,(You know that was from Daddy Bush's friends) and failing to report in the prescribed amount time an SEC filing he was suoposed to file on his inside deal?
The magnatude of illegal and unethical business dealings this guy has had is mind boggling.(But not surprising.)

Red,

Setting aside for a moment that there is no evidence that Bush was a "fall down Drunk", I guess your assertion is that someone who may have had a drinking problem at one point in their lives is, in perpetuity, no longer able to function successfully?

That is, unquestionably, a classic example of ignorance.

It's just disheartening to see people like yourself who are obviously intelligent vote for a loser like Gore. It's the lesser of two evils conundrum. The fact that we're forced to choose based on who's less evil than who's actually a better candidate is laughable at best.

People tell me that my vote for a 3rd party candidate is a vote wasted. But is a vote for what you don't really want any better?

BobberFett-

No wasted vote there. In one of my other posts I mentioned that I voted for Perot, not to get him elected but to keep an Independent party viable for the next election.

Not crazy about either of these candidates really but to vote for Mr. Gore is as unthinkable to me as it was to vote for clinton. (No honorific or capitalization purely intentional.) GBA that we can say the things we feel here.

<< People tell me that my vote for a 3rd party candidate is a vote wasted. But is a vote for what you don't really want any better? >>

BoberFett, the lesser of two evils argument doesn't hold water. It would if either major party was substantially better than the other. But they're identical, evil twin brothers in my view at least at the federal level. So, voting for a third-party fellow like Browne isn't a waste. At the very least, it has "message value" -- you're sending a signal you're fed up and the major parties do take that into account (look at what Perot's 20% did -- added many issues to the table).

The real fight is at the state level on down. We need to put good independents and third-party folk in office. Eventually they'll add up and we'll have some real reform at the federal level. And in the meantime every state will reap the benefits of more common sense independent management. Hopefully this will happen before the fed's completely take over our lives.

voteing for a 3rd party is a waste at least in this election because every vote for a 3rd party canadate is one less for Bush. now we know that none of the 3rd pariters are gonna win so why make it that much easier for gore...

who needs four more years of the same $hit?

You just don't get it. Gore and Bush are the same. A vote for either of them is a waste. If everybody continually thinks that 3rd party votes are a waste, then nothing will ever change.

<< because every vote for a 3rd party canadate is one less for Bush >>

Then I'm making the correct decision. ;)

Harry Browne said himself "it's a longshot". But actually becoming president isn't the biggest concern. Keeping the party growing and in the public eye is vital for a third-party, as thebestMAX alluded to below. And to repeat, it'll take years before independents and libertarians can clean-up federal politics. But to get to the top of that flight of stairs, we must take one step at a time.

gore and bush while similar are not the same mainly because gore is in bed with the chinese and god knows who else...

anyway my point was that we've already had eight years of the same administration, eight years of scandles lies and missing national secrets, why would you want four more years of that?

my consern is with the imidiate future. it's nice to think about the day when good well meaning people like browne can get elected but if we don't consentrate on today will we never get there...

Exactly bigvince, most people are concerned with their immediate gratification and don't think about the long term. So just keep voting for corruption, they don't mind.

everyone is corrupt in this day and age but you just can't deny the evils of the current administration , now knowing that how can you help gore get elected?! that's where your vote is going regardless of what the name next to the hole on the card says. A VOTE FOR AN INDEPENDANT IS A VOTE FOR GORE!
i can't stress that enough! 3rd party canadates aren't going to win so why not help unseat the evil regime that is in place now...
